Description:
A Kadai is a deep circular cooking pot used in North India, often for deep frying or stewing. Fish Kadai Amritsari is a Punjab dish from North India, made with chunks of pre-marinated boneless fish stewed in a spicy curry.


The deboned fish in Fish Kadai Amritsari is first marinated with a mixture of plain yoghurt and tandoori masala, then roasted in a tandoor oven. Some variations grill or pan-fry the fish instead.

The curry for Fish Kadai Amritsari traditionally includes green / red capsicum / bell peppers, garam masala, salt, onions, garlic, ginger, chili, chopped tomatoes, powdered coriander and clarified butter (Ghee).

The deboned fish is then added, and stewed till done. Fish Kadai Amritsari is usually garnished with coriander leaves and sliced tomatoes.

The curry should be spicy, and the fish tender, with meat that pulls off easily.

Fish Kadai Amritsari is accompanied by Indian breads or rice.
