Description:
Appam is a dish from Tamil Nadu, South India, that is a type of steamed Indian pancake.

Appam is made with ground white rice, coconut milk, sugar, salt, yeast, and oil / clarified butter (Ghee).

While Appam can be eaten plain (Plain Appam / Appam Plain), various other ingredients can also be added as a topping. Common toppings include egg (Egg Appam / Appam Egg), coconut milk (Milk Appam / Appam Milk), or honey syrup (Honey Appam / Appam Honey).

A good Appam has a middle that is soft and fluffy, with the edges being thin and crispy.

Appam is often eaten during breakfast, and is served with grated coconut, coconut chutney, and orange coloured palm sugar crystals. Appam can also be eaten as a dessert.
