Description:
Appam is a dish from Tamil Nadu, South India, that is a type of steamed Indian pancake.

Appam is made with rice, coconut milk, sugar, salt, yeast and oil / clarified butter (Ghee).

While Appam can be eaten plain (Plain Appam / Appam Plain), various other ingredients can also be added as a topping. Common toppings include egg (Egg Appam / Appam Egg), coconut milk or evaporated milk (Milk Appam / Appam Milk), or honey syrup (Honey Appam / Appam Honey).

A good Appam has a middle that is soft and fluffy, with the edges thin and crispy.

Appam is often eaten during breakfast, and is served with grated coconut, coconut chutney, and spiced orange palm sugar. Appam can also be eaten as a dessert.
