Set within the quiet Rochester Park neighbourhood, North Border Bar & Grill is a cozy restaurant serving flavourful Southern American and Mexican food. 


Brought a special someone here for her birthday, and we loved the experience! The service at North Border Bar & Grill was excellent. Not only were staff friendly, polite and knowledgeable, but they were sensitive and proactive as well. 


She mentioned that it was slightly humid outdoors, so I called the staff and asked if we could move to a cooler location. But she didn't want to trouble them with moving us... so the alert staff suggested setting up a fan near our table instead. Thumbs up for their service! 


As North Border Bar & Grill is located in a restored colonial bungalow, there is a lot more outdoor seating than indoor seating. Ambience consists of the natural greenery surrounding the place, and is great for candlelight dinners. They have collapsible awnings in the event of rain. 


Food at North Border Bar & Grill is very good in my experience. They serve South American and Mexican cuisine with a focus on barbecue and meats. Most dishes feature home-made sauces, and overall are tasty and flavourful.

While the Nachos are the cheap, store-bought variety, the Home Made Salsa Dip is the true star here, with each mouthful a burst of fresh tomatoes and jalapenos.

Lychee Martini is almost similar to the cocktail you'll get elsewhere... Good, but nothing outstanding.

The Herb Roasted Chicken With Ricotta Cheese, Sun-Dried Tomato Stuffing, Buttered Brown Rice And Sauteed Vegetables Topped With Crabmeat Remoulade is a creole dish. The combination of flavours here is fantastic, and the meat is still tender without being dry. Good skill here.

The Baby Back Ribs With Roasted Potatoes And Sauteed Vegetables featured pork ribs that had been slow cooked till it came clean off the bone, with a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. The vegetables were great as well, having been slighlty char-grilled, with a smoky aroma.

The menu description carries a warning: "For the adventurous". The Chili Ice Cream looks innocent, but the first mouthful packs quite a bit of heat! 5 mouthfuls in and the burn begins... 10 mouthfuls in and you'll feel like you're eating fire. The contrast between cold and hot is unique, but be warned that drinking water doesn't help much. We couldn't finish it, but concluded it's great for an experience... or a dare.
