Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse is an open concept casual beer bar that is situated alongside the Singapore River at Clarke Quay. Supposedly, Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse specialises in a huge variety of beers, bar bites, and rotisserie... But in reality, this doesn't seem to hold true.

One of the better things about Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse is the ambience. Due to its open concept, diners have a great view of the Singapore River, and can enjoy the breeze or people watching as well. It's a good place for chilling, as you can be casually dressed. Furniture is also rather comfortable and evenly spaced, though there isn't much decor. However, an open concept also does have its drawbacks, as a tall ceiling means rain tends to splatter the outermost seats, and hot, still days can be quite uncomfortable.

Service at Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse is friendly, polite and efficient, though food does take some time to be served. I think it's great that staff actually ask for feedback on your dining experience, and are also trained to offer more beer when you're about to finish, which is a good sign of alertness. Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse also has an excellent process of service recovery, if you have a valid reason to be dissatisfied with a dish, they'll take it back and remove it from your bill, no questions asked. And they'll also apologise and offer you the choice of ordering a replacement dish. Great stuff, and something I wish other establishments would emulate!

I struggle with the food at Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse though. On one hand, I want to really like it, as it's presented beautifully, and looks fantastic. But when it comes to the actual taste, most of their dishes are sorely lacking, being either overcooked, undercooked, or simply not fresh. Because of this, I feel that prices at Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse are rather unjustified, and somewhat expensive. And for a place that calls itself a 'Rotisserie', I can't overlook roast items which are dry inside!

However, I like the extensive range of beers at Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse. The only issue is that sometimes, some options may not be available... Check with staff when placing your order!

Overall, I would probably recommend Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse for their beers, some of the bar bites, and for chilling or relaxing. I know it's a place where staff will treat customers well, and provide good service. But skip their main dishes and most of their food.

Brewdog 5am Saint, a red ale with fruity aromas and flowery hops from Scotland. Obolon Velvet (Dunkel), a dark beer with slight sweetness of caramel and raisins, from Ukraine. Rodenbach Classic (Red Ale), a red ale with slight fruity flavour and oak, from Belgium.

The Classic Roast Chicken was well seasoned, and had a nice crisp skin. But the further I got into it, the more dry it became, until I simply couldn't finish it. As a signature dish here, it was a total failure. Fortunately, the Potatoes, Spinach And Mushrooms were very well-cooked and tasty, and I wish it could be ordered as a side dish!

The Pork Ribs came off the bone easily and clean, and had a nice, savoury BBQ / barbecue dry spice rub which gave it a lot of flavour. But it was also slightly dry and tough within. Again, the Potatoes, Spinach And Mushrooms were excellent.

The Beef Squer With Mushrooms And Bell Peppers was the best dish I've had here, and I would return just to have this. A great snack, the beef was tender, juicy and cooked perfectly, not dry or tough. The mushrooms and bell peppers were well seasoned and added flavour, and the side salad balanced out the dish. Highly recommended!

I had a bad experience with the Clams In Garlic, Parsley And White Wine. While the sauce / broth / soup was tasty and the bread was fresh and crisp, the clams weren't fresh at all. I sampled a few, before deciding that I couldn't continue in case I got sick. So I called the staff and sent it back... And they took it off my bill even though I didn't ask, and apologised for it. Then they offered the menu and suggested a replacement item. Good service recovery!

The Home Made Dory Fish Fingers With Fries was the replacement item I chose. Fortunately, the fish was fresh and cooked nicely. The batter was light, and not too oily. I liked that the fries were thick-cut. Good dish overall, and I'll order it again.

Update Dec-2015: Glad to see that Sque Rotisserie & Alehouse is still around after 3 years. The ambience remains largely as good as ever, but I personally feel that service has vastly improved, as the staff are more friendly and engaging now. However, while food prices have more or less remained the same, the portion size has shrunk quite a bit.

Update Dec-2015: The Beer Kronenbourg Blanc (SGD $12.80 / $18) is served on tap here! Perfect for warm days, chilling outside while watching the world go by.

Update Dec-2015: The Meat Balls In Brown Sauce (SGD $9.50) feature 10 small but tightly packed beef and pork meat balls, in a savoury salty brown sauce. Great bar snack that makes you want to keep drinking, and light enough that it doesn't feel you up. Good for sharing, but slightly pricey for its portion size.
