Established since 1975, Tony's Lord Nelson Restaurant is one of the oldest dining establishments in Auckland. Their menu has remained virtually unchanged, with good reason, as loyal patrons return repeatedly for their excellent and succulent steaks and lamb chops, done according to traditional New Zealand / Kiwi recipes adapted from the Colonial British.

Ambience at Tony's Lord Nelson Restaurant harkens back to the old Colonial era, with faux stone walls, baroque lamps, dim lighting, retro booths, and wooden panelling. You do get the sense of an upper class establishment when dining at Tony's Lord Nelson Restaurant, as befits a place named after Lord Horatio Nelson, a famous Britsh naval officer.

Service at Tony's Lord Nelson Restaurant is welcoming and professional, almost up to fine dining standards. Staff are knowledgable about the food on wine on the menu, and are able to make suitable recommendations. They also check on how your meal is going. There is usually a short wait for food to be served, even if the place isn't busy, and the wait is longer during peak periods, as food is prepared to order.

Food specialities at Tony's Lord Nelson Restaurant includes their steak, lamb, and seafood. Portions are generous and filling, and ingredients are fresh and sourced from local farms in New Zealand. Dishes are generally tasty and flavourful, though prices are slightly higher here as compared to most other restaurants in Auckland.

The Colonial interior and understated exterior are quite charming, and more importantly, comfortable. The floor layout does offer quite a good deal of privacy for diners, while allowing the restaurant to pack in the crowds.

The food menu is quite extensive, as is the drinks menu. There aren't many desserts options though. Small eaters may consider sharing instead, as serving portions are large.
