Located down an unassuming back lane, Nha Hang Man / Man Restaurant is a hidden gem of a restaurant. Chef-owner Steven set up Nha Hang Man / Man Restaurant in September 2014, serving his take on modern Vietnamese cuisine, a pleasant yet interestingly unique Asian fusion. His classy, modern food and atmosphere is especially popular with Vietnamese PMETs (professionals, managers, executives, and technicians), as well as expatriates.

Ambience at Nha Hang Man / Man Restaurant is quiet and modern. The white walls are offset by striking Vietnamese art portraits, clean lines, and decorative lighting. Dark, modern wooden furniture line the small space, yet it feels cozy, not cramped. The low ambient lighting sets a rather intimate mood, though it makes photography difficult.

Service at Nha Hang Man / Man Restaurant is decent enough. You'll get typical restaurant style, sit-down dining service, as staff are friendly and polite. The place is rather empty, so staff could devote a bit more attention to guests. Orders are fulfilled within 15 minutes. The menu is small, but has English descriptions, and staff will make recommendations if asked. But I must say, they could have done better, the service wasn't too memorable.

Food at Nha Hang Man / Man Restaurant is modern Vietnamese. Traditional dishes are reinterpreted, fusing Western style elements. Dishes are presented in modern Western plating styles, but taste is distinctly Asian Vietnamese. In general, I find dishes to be packed with flavour, each component is done well. Portions are large, and prices are rather affordable for a restaurant, considered relatively cheap by locals. Budget about VND ₫185,000 / SGD $12 per person for a meal here.

It's not easy to find Nha Hang Man / Man Restaurant, and almost impossible to accidentally stumble upon it. You might have to go with the locals, especially Vietnamese professionals / executives, who are in the know.

Nha Hang Man / Man Restaurant Menu Appetizers

Nha Hang Man / Man Restaurant Menu Main Courses

The Crispy Rice Flower Dumpling With Green Beans, Ground Pork, Black Pepper, Scallion Oil, Pork Crisp, Pickles, Fish Sauce appetizer features a dumpling that has a crisp exterior, and a soft, warm, fluffy interior. The dressings lend a slightly sour, tangy, sweet flavour, complementing the savoury pork. Unique as a dish, but not something I really enjoyed.

The Grilled Lemongrass Pork Patties, Jujubee Cinnamon Sauce, Shredded Steamed Rice Ravioli, Pickles, Shiso Leaf appetizer is distinctly savoury, with good flavour from the perfectly grilled pork. Some slight sweetness from the sauce, but I wasn't sure whether the leaf was meant only as a garnish, or should be eaten. Rather enjoyable, due to the grilled pork!

Absolutely loved the Pan Seared Curry Rubbed Barramundi, Fried Corn, Reduced Coconut Lemongrass Sauce! The barramundi fish is fresh and flaky, the sauce lends an earthy, spicy taste. But the real star for me was the corn, crunchy, juicy, savoury, sweet all at once. A delightful burst of flavour in evey bite. Highly recommended!
