In the vein of other old-school, traditional men's barber shops across Singapore, The Gentlemen Society harkens back to the nostalgic days of men's grooming. Unlike the distinctly more upscale brands, The Gentlemen Society is a simpler, bare bones throwback to barbering. Men will be pampered here, though don't expect a gentle touch, they do rugged, manly grooming. Think stiff hair brushes, smell of musk, and even using a razor blade to put the finishing touches on your hair!

Ambience at The Gentlemen Society is functional minimalist, with greyscale photographs as decor on the clean white walls. The small place is brightly lit with a clean floor, and a small waiting area that features elegant plush black chairs. Prices and services are clearly stated on the wall beside the counter. The 360 degree swivel on the comfortable barber's chairs allows for ease of movement, while the accurately positioned, elegant black wash basins are modern in style. I do note that the barber's tools are on a central table, which only allows for 2 barbers to work at any one time, even though there is space for 3 barbers.

Service is very good at The Gentlemen Society. Staff are friendly, welcoming you, and offering (free) drinks when you arrive. The barbers are skilled, able to take requests, as well as make good recommendations when asked. This is most evident in shaving; which was quick, clean, precise, and careful. Ultimately, I was not nicked or cut at all during shaving, except for a single minor scratch, unlike other places where I was left with multiple nicks and some lacerations. Hair cutting is comparable to typical hair salons, with effort put into trimming, washing, and styling. Was very impressed with their attention to details!

This old-school, manly grooming at The Gentlemen Society doesn't come cheap though, as a hair cut and wash alone costs SGD $50, with a hot towel shave costing SGD $35. Also, having only 2 barbers at work may result in a long queue time. The barbers spend about 20 - 30 minutes or so with each customer, so buffer at least 40 minutes or more per visit. But if you want to be pampered, and don't mind spending some time and money, than The Gentlemen Society is a good choice for men's grooming!
