You may laugh at the hilarious antics of comedian and television host Mr. Kang Ho-Dong, who in the past was an multiple award-winning Ssireum championship wrestler, but when it comes to his international chain of Korean barbecue restaurants, it's a real serious business. At Kang Ho Dong Baek Jeong, which in English means 'Kang Ho-Dong The Butcher', you'll have a memorable dining experience!

Ambience at Kang Ho Dong Baek Jeong is like the man himself, quirky, playful, and larger than life. Decor comes mainly from oddball posters and life-size caricatures, liberally placed around the spacious dining area. Seated on solid wooden furniture, around a table with a charcoal grill in the middle, the overhead ventilation shafts help reduce the smell of grilling meat. As compared to other barbecue grill places, the smell here is noticeably less. I only wish the place was more brightly lit!

Service at Kang Ho Dong Baek Jeong is good. Staff are friendly, offering greetings, and seating diners quickly. They are able to converse in Korean and Mandarin fluently, with some basic English. They even made recommendations! The menu has helpful English translations, with clear pictures and prices. Staff even provided big plastic bags to store bags and jackets, so that the smell of cooking doesn't stain them! I also note that staff are efficient are clearing up empty / dirty tables, and orders are fulfilled within 10 minutes, despite the large crowd during peak hours. Staff also change the metal grill at your table fairly regularly.

Food at Kang Ho Dong Baek Jeong is all about large cuts of meat, served raw, which you then barbecue over the charcoal grill at your table. There is a good variety of cuts available for beef, pork, and chicken, including the signature Korean marinated meats. Each meal is served with a small selection of Banchan / side dishes, and some fresh vegetables. There's even an egg served together with the special grill! Prices are reasonable for the good quality, budget about KRW ₩15,300 / SGD $18 per person for a full meal here. In fact, we couldn't even finish all our food!

There is a really small selection of Banchan / side dishes, like this Kimchi Oi Sobaegi / Kimchi Pickled Cucumber. Of course, the star is the barbecue meats, but as with all Korean restaurants, the Banchan / side dishes are free-flow, and you can always request for more!

Some righteous Gogigui / Barbecue here, fresh, good quality cuts of beef, pork, and chicken, all at reasonable prices. Best eaten wrapped with the free-flow of Sangchu / Lettuce, which complements the savoury, smoky barbecue / grilled meat with a fresh, crunchy sweetness!

The highlight for me is the Kkot Deungsim / Beef Ribeye (KRW ₩14,000 / SGD $16), marinated and savoury, tender and moist, incredibly satisfiying. The Samgyeopsal / Pork Belly (KRW ₩9,900 / SGD $12), and Chadolbegi / Thin Beef Brisket (KRW ₩10,900 / SGD $13) are decent, and worth ordering if you're alright with fatty meat. The Deungsim / Beef Sirloin (KRW ₩10,900 / SGD $13) is good too, but already pre-cut into strips for you.
