Daeng Seafood / Dang Seafood is located a 90 minute drive out of the city of Bangkok, Thailand, in the Samut Songkhram province. Primarily a fresh seafood wholesale centre, Daeng Seafood / Dang Seafood also operates a casual eatery / restaurant, featuring mainly seafood dishes. Honestly, it's not worth travelling all the way to Daeng Seafood / Dang Seafood just to dine here. However, if you're planning to road trip to Hua Hin, or to visit the nearby Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, or are generally travelling to this area for other purposes, then it's worthwhile to visit Daeng Seafood / Dang Seafood. They've started to become famous with tourists travelling Highway 35, as word-of-mouth spreads about their delicious, affordable dishes!

Ambience at Daeng Seafood / Dang Seafood is casual rustic. Simple wooden and plastic furniture, tightly packed in several small dining rooms, lit by bright fluorescent lighting. A noisy air-conditioning system keeps the heat away. This is not a tourist place, as they serve mainly the local villages nearby, so there is no facade, or upkeep of appearances. Raw, unpretentious, truly Thai.

Service at Daeng Seafood / Dang Seafood is simple, friendly, family style. Nobody here speaks English (not a tourist place), but helpfully, the menu has basic English descriptions of dishes, and you can also point to pictures to order. When dining here, online translators are your friend. Staff are polite and efficient, orders are fulfilled quickly, and the high turnover here means they clear empty / dirty tables fast.

Food at Daeng Seafood / Dang Seafood is all about fresh seafood, prepared on the spot, in the open kitchen outside. It's Thai, so you get simple, balanced flavours, with the seafood being the star, and the accompanying sauce helping to enhance the overall taste. Communal dining is a must, as portions are sized for at least 3 - 4 people. Prices are affordable and reasonable enough for locals, more so for foreigners, budget about THB ฿715 / SGD $28 per person. Note that whole crabs are the most expensive item here, costing upwards of THB ฿1400 / SGD $54.10 per crab. However, all other types of seafood offered are much cheaper.

The fragrant Khao Pad Goong / Fried Rice With Prawn (THB ฿150 / SGD $5.80) is a delight, with its nicely fried rice that holds good flavour, and the generous portion of large, meaty, sweet, deshelled shrimp. In fact, there's more shrimp than rice, not something you often see! Great!

The Tom Yum Goong (THB ฿300 / SGD $12) is served in a large, steaming hot pot, and is best shared with 3 - 4 people. The soup / broth is properly savoury spicy, with floral aromas from the lemongrass and herbs. The deshelled shrimp and straw mushrooms within are fresh, and have a nice sweet savoury flavour. Letting the soup / broth reduce down throughout your meal makes the taste more intense, to the point of being overly salty, so I advise finishing this quickly!

Loved the chewy, bouncy texture of the fresh squid in the Pla Meuk Neung Ma Nao / Steamed Squid With Lime Garlic Sauce (THB ฿200 / SGD $7.80). Nicely sweet savoury, with notes of sharp sour from the sauce, with fragrant undertones of garlic. So clean-tasting, meaty, and fresh, totally addictive. Highly recommended!

The Pla Tod Kapong / Deep Fried Whole Snapper Fish (THB ฿350 / SGD $13.60) has a prefectly executed snapper fish, with a crisp, savoury salty exterior, and a moist, sweet tender interior. Hints of garlic make this non-greasy dish more fragrant. The fish meat is so clean-tasting and fresh, coming easily off the few bones within, making it easy to eat. Excellent!

The Nuer Plu Pad Pong Ga Ree / Stir-Fried Curry Crab Meat (THB ฿450 / SGD $17.40) is tasty and full-flavoured, if only because of the monosodium glutamate (MSG) used in preparing this. Still, there is a generous amount of fresh, sweet, deshelled crab meat, complmenting the savoury salty curry gravy, and the crunch of the spring onions. Too much of this will make you thirsty though.

The Pu Neung / Steamed Crab (THB ฿1400 / SGD $54.10) is expensive, because of the copious amount of crab roe you get. Steamed along with garlic, the crab meat is clean-tasting, sweet, and fragrant. However, the high price would prevent me from ordering this again.
