Founded in 1991 by Kwon Won Kang, Kyochon is a Korean fried chicken franchise that has since gone international, with over 1,000 stores worldwide. Known for being among the pioneers of the double-frying technique, which keeps their fried chicken crisp for a longer time, yet makes it less greasy, Kyochon was also the 1st Korean fried chicken restaurant to begin applying sauces directly onto the chicken after frying, creating a whole new way to enjoy fried chicken.

We stumbled across the Kyochon outlet near Busan Station by accident, while exploring the area. Had heard good reviews of the outlet in Singapore, but have yet to visit, so we seized the opportunity to dine here, especially since its a local Korean brand.

Ambience at Kyochon is casual functional. Dim warm lighting barely illuminates the sturdy wooden furniture, casting shadows over the red and black walls. The outlet we visited serves the party-goers, and opens till late, but the seating is limited and cramped. Observed most people order takeaway.

Service at Kyochon is functional and efficient, but not proactive. The relatively young staff can converse in simple English, and carry out requests quickly. However, they also assume you already know what to order, and don't greet guests or seat them. However, they do clear away empty / dirty tables quickly.

Food at Kyochon is all about Korean fried chicken, in particular, those sauce coated versions. Their double-frying technique ensures all servings of chicken are well executed and delicious, very consistent in quality. Portions are large and hearty, comparatively even larger than elsewhere. Prices are wallet-friendly and affordable, budget about KRW ₩15000 / SGD $18 per person for a meal here.

It isn't Chimaek without fried chicken and a beer pairing. They serve Beer Cass (KRW ₩3000 / SGD $3.60) here, very affordable for a draft.

They're known for their various sauced fried chicken, but some still prefer their Kyochon Fried Chicken (KRW ₩15000 / SGD $18). This allows you to taste the natural sweet savoury flavours, the crispy crunch of the skin, and the juicy tender chicken meat which comes easily off the bone. Served with a choice of honey mustard sauce or a ranch sauce. Good!

The Kyochon Soy Sauce Fried Chicken Winglets & Drumettes (KRW ₩17000 / SGD $20.50) is the signature dish here. The juicy tender pieces of chicken have a crisp crunchy skin, coated in a light soy sauce marinade. Despite the sauce, the chicken still holds its crisp texture well. Each bite is a lovely burst of salty savoury flavour, then you get the natural sweet savoury flavour of the chicken meat. Highly recommended!

The Kyochon Honey Drumsticks (KRW ₩15000 / SGD $18) features large portions of chicken drumsticks, with a sweet savoury flavour and juicy tender texture. The crispy skin is coated with a light honey sauce, giving it a bold floral sweet note. Contrasts slightly with the more savoury flavour of the chicken meat, somewhat of an acquired taste.
