Since opening in August 2017, Tokyo Eater Pop-Up Store has positioned itself as a revolving / rotating concept, casual Japanese eatery, with a menu that is supposed to change now and then. At the time of this post in however, Tokyo Eater Pop-Up Store has largely kept to its original concept of Japanese tendon or tempura donburi; which features a variety of fried tempura ingredients over a bowl of white rice, drizzled with sauce.

Ambience at Tokyo Eater Pop-Up Store is modern functional. The brightly lit place is neatly lined with simple wooden furnishings, with contrasts of wood against red hues. Feels very much like a eat-and-go kind of place, not that suitable for lingering. It is child and family friendly though, which is good news.

Service at Tokyo Eater Pop-Up Store is completely self-service, with ordering, payment, and collection over the counter. Don't expect much product knowledge here, as the sparse menu is detailed and clear. I do note that staff efficiently clear away empty / dirty tables after diners leave.

Food at Tokyo Eater Pop-Up Store is focused on Japanese cuisine, which at the moment, consists of tendon / tempura donburi. There are actually only 3 options on the menu, so not much of a choice. Dishes are passably tasty, they hit a minimum standard. Portions are suitably sized for individuals. Prices are comparable to a casual eatery, budget about SGD $17 per person for a meal here.

A typical Set Meal (SGD $15.50 / $17.50) is served with a decent side of Pickles and Chawanmushi / Steamed Egg Custard, as well as a bottle with a generous portion of Dashi / Seaweed Soup / Broth. Because the meal is served in a deep and wide bowl, it's easy to eat this Chazuke Style, pouring some of the soup / broth into the bowl. I find this especially comforting on cold or rainy days!

The Special Tendon (SGD $13.80) features a bowl of fluffy Japanese white rice, topped with 11 tempura fried ingredients, all having a lovely crisp and light batter. The ingredients include 2 string beans, 1 shiitake mushroom, 1 large pumpkin slice, 1 red bell pepper / capsicum, 1 baby corn, 2 chicken fillets, 2 prawns / shrimp, and 1 fried egg. Nice combination of vegetal earthy sweet savoury flavours, with textures of crunchy, tender, juicy. You can also choose a sauce to drizzle over, I got ume / plum sauce, which gave the bowl a nice zesty sour tangy feel. However, I felt let down by the fried egg, as it differs from the menu picture, which shows an ajitama flavoured egg instead.

The Jumbo Anago Tendon (SGD $15.80) features a bowl of fluffy Japanese white rice, topped with 10 tempura fried ingredients, all having a lovely crisp and light batter. The ingredients include 2 string beans, 1 shiitake mushroom, 1 large pumpkin slice, 1 red bell pepper / capsicum, 1 baby corn, 2 dory fish fillets, 1 congel eel fillet, and 1 fried egg. Nice combination of vegetal earthy sweet savoury flavours, with textures of crunchy, tender, juicy. You can also choose a sauce to drizzle over, I got wasabi mayonnaise, which gave the bowl a tangy spicy zesty feel. Beyond the unimpressive fried egg, the generous, hearty portion is also heavy on the palate.
