Ambience at Studio 1939 is sophisticated and intimate. The eclectic furnishings fit with the quirky concept of the place, having a whimsical, playful, and semi-creepy feel, especially in the dimly lit area. Plush lounge sofas occupy a corner, while bar seating offers you a good view of the bottles, and allows engagement with the bartender. The place is suitable for relaxing and lingering.

Service at Studio 1939 is very good. Staff are efficient and attentive, fulfilling orders quickly, and clearing away empty / dirty plates and glasses proactively throughout your meal. The best thing is to sit around the bar, and converse with the engaging bartenders on duty. The regular service staff only display a cursory product knowledge of the menu, but show good initiative to check for answers.

Food at Studio 1939 is from the Potato Head Folk & Three Buns kitchen. The speciality here is drinks, with a focus on bespoke cocktails, made with a creative combination of ingredients. Most are modern spin-offs from traditional classic cocktails, usually featuring a Singaporean ingredient as a twist on flavour. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are comparable to other bars, budget about SGD $21 per drink here.

The Hyde And Seek Cocktail (SGD $21) features a blend of Hendrick's gin (rose petal & cucumber), Midori muskmelon liqueur, lime juice, orange blossom water, watermelon juice / yellow watermelon juice, and a sugar syrup. It has a refreshing fruity sweet sour zesty flavour, very thirst-quenching. Also deceptive, the alcohol content quickly builds as it's so easy to drink.

The My Daddy Cool Cocktail (SGD $21) features a blend of the house created 5 rum blend, Merlet Triple Sec orange liqueur, Merlet Lune D'Abricot apricot liqueur, lime juice, cardamom bitters, angostura bitters, and orgeat syrup. This gives it a complex sweet sour bitter nutty boozy flavour, and a strong body. I really enjoyed this, was my favourite cocktail I sampled here.

The Hey Sailor!!! Cocktail (SGD $21) features a blend of Sailor Jerry spiced rum, the house created pineapple rum, gula melaka / palm sugar, coconut syrup, and Koko Kanu coconut rum. Real island tropical drink, with notes of earthy sweet nutty herbal, very nice. The amount of rum in this lends a Jamaican feel.

The 1st in a series of tribute burgers, created to pay homage to the owner's favourite musicians and songs. The Tribute Burger Vol. 1 - Under Pressure Burger (SGD $22) is named for the 1981 'Under Pressure' song by Queen and David Bowie. It features a slow cooked, sous vide, 150g black angus beef patty, shaved fennel, lemon juice, tomato ketchup, truffle aioli, sliced tomato, and brie de meaux cheese, all sandwiched between fluffy soft, toasted demi brioche burger buns. Incredibly messy, juicy, tender, with bold savoury sweet earthy flavours, very satisfiying. I only think it lacks the smoky aroma of a grilled patty. Good!

Enjoyed my experience at Studio 1939, and the creative cocktails here are well-executed and novel. As always, the burgers from the Potato Head Folk & Three Buns kitchen are generously sized, tasty, and filling. If you love creative bespoke cocktails and / or deliciously hearty, messy burgers, then a visit to Studio 1939 is a must.
