Introduction
Located about 40 minutes drive away from the Malacca international airport / Batu Berendam airport in Malacca, the Novotel Melaka is a modern, comfortable, 4-star hotel near the city centre. The convenient location to numerous attractions, medical facilities, business areas, and malls is a plus for Novotel Melaka, and the place is especially suitable for families with children, groups, and business travellers.


Ambience
Ambience at Novotel Melaka is contemporary, with a touch of elegant splendor. The high ceiling and spacious lobby, tiled with glossy marble and decked with wide lounge chairs, is both welcoming and attractive. The hallways are decently lit in warm lights, while clear signages indicate the various facilities in the hotel. However, the lifts feel slow; I usually have to wait a couple minutes or so.


Room
Rooms at Novotel Melaka are clean, comfortable, and decently stocked with amenities. The bed is large and soft, and a comfortable cushioned long chair is positioned for a clear view of the television and pantry. Internet connection via wifi is fast and stable. The bathroom is well stocked with amenities, which staff replenish daily, and is equipped with a bidet. However, the in-room chiller is small, able to store little beyond beverages and small snacks. I also wish they had brighter in-room lighting.


Food
Food at Novotel Melaka is below average to average. At The Square Restaurant, their local Malaysian cuisine is usually decently executed and tasty, but the Western options are underwhelming. There is almost no other Asian cuisine options beyond Malaysian. The desserts and pastries are alright, but you can get better elsewhere. If booking a room, skip the option to include breakfast, and head across the road to eat instead.


Service
Service at Novotel Melaka is good. Staff are friendly and can converse well, greeting and engaging guests. The only low point is peak periods during breakfast service, when the huge number of guests dining at the same time makes it difficult for staff to efficiently clear away finished plates. Otherwise, I commend staff for being helpful and efficient in most other aspects, such as fulfilling requests or displaying good knowledge of the local area.


Facilities & Activities
The facilities and activities at Novotel Melaka are above average, particularly for children. They are among the few hotels to offer dedicated play areas for children, with a water play area beside the swimming pool, and a play room with a few games and toys (best to bring your own). The business centre is small but functional. The conference area and meeting rooms are clean, spacious, and well-equipped, making Novotel Melaka a suitable place for meetings. Overall, I would return to Novotel Melaka for future visits.
