Conceptualised in March 2011 by coffee farmer Kenneth Soji, but only attaining recognition in September 2014 when it established in Higashiyama, Kyoto, Kansai, Japan, with the help of latte art champion Junichi Yamaguchi, % Arabica ranks amongst the most popular coffee shops around. Based on a philosophy of simplicity, down-to-earth basics, and amazing coffee, % Arabica has since grown worldwide with over 80 stores across 15 countries, opening to long queues in Singapore in June 2019.

Ambience at % Arabica lives up to its philosophy. Clean, simple, minimalist lines, with colours of white, grey, and wood, exude a feeling of calm zen. In the brightly lit open space, the simple but limited wooden furnishings are decently comfortable, and help regulate the amount of people present at any one time, so it never looks crowded (except for the queue outside). A large espresso bar, neatly arrayed with brewing equipment, occupies central attention.

Service at % Arabica is friendly, efficient, and attentive. Staff display great product knowledge, helped in part by the small but focused menu offerings. They accord each customer personalised attention, and work quickly to fulfill orders. Most people order takeaway, so there's little clutter for cleaning up around, contributing to the welcoming ambience. There's full transparency here, you can see how baristas prepare your beverage from start to end.

Food at % Arabica is limited to a few baked goods. People come for the coffee beverages, in either hot or iced form. There's sufficient range, with different roasted coffee beans on display, and changed according to the season, sourced from over 6 countries worldwide. Quality is consistently good, and portions are sized for individuals. Prices are comparable to other artisanal coffee houses, budget about SGD $8 per person for a beverage here.

The Latte (SGD $7) is smooth, with a medium strength of body and a slight creamy mouthfeel thanks to the quality of milk. Nice fragrant toasty notes of roasted coffee beans, sweet milky with a slight bitter hint. Good!

The Dark Latte (SGD $8.60) is stiff and strong, with deep toasty earthy sweet notes capped with a mild bitter hint. Nicely aromatic with a bold strength of body, and a smooth mouthfeel without being overly acidic. Good!

The Spanish Latte (SGD $7.80) has prominent notes of spice, complementing the bold toasty milky sweet flavours of the coffee. This gives it an enticing kick, yet the notes are nicely balanced within. Good!
