Introduction
Located about 50 minutes drive away from the Penang International Airport in Penang Island, Penang, Malaysia, The Prestige Hotel Penang is a 5-star hotel set in a restored 19th century colonial building. Boasting 162 rooms, this luxury hotel exudes a refined sophistication, and is well-positioned in George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, being within walking distance to myriad restaurants, hawker stalls, shopping malls, and tourist attractions.

Ambience
Ambience at The Prestige Hotel Penang has an old-world elegance, bringing to mind a luxurious tropical eden. Blending colonial heritage together with a contemporary sensibility, the hotel overlooks the picturesque Strait Of Malacca between Penang Island and the Malaysian mainland. The corridors are distinctly modernist, with sharp angular lines and low warm lights, contrasting with the refined Victorian-era facade. The monochrome palette is livened by gentle pastels and highlights in brass and gold, alongside natural greenery positioned tastefully.

Room
Rooms at The Prestige Hotel Penang are a comfortable sanctuary, cool in temperature with good air-conditioning and decorative wallpaper of greenery which lends a sense of calm. Clever use of mirrors and lights keep the place bright without harshness, and the bathroom and toilet were great. The bed was large and comfortable, offering good back and neck support. The complimentary in-room mini bar was restocked daily, and I loved the dining and working desk.

Food
Food at The Prestige Hotel Penang is offered at the all-day dining The Glasshouse Restaurant, or the Michelin-Guide recommended Gēn 根 fine-dining modern restaurant which interprets Malaysian flavours with curated local and seasonal ingredients, artfully presented by Chef Johnson Wong. The Glasshouse Restaurant also offers in-room dining, with selected dishes boasting local or international flavours, alongside a small selection of seasonal offerings.

Service
Service at The Prestige Hotel Penang was warm without being intrusive, with staff quick to offer help, and genuinely attentive to small details. They proactively offer assistance with luggage or doors, warmly greeting each guest. Housekeeping was efficient and observant, while restaurant and reception staff were always ready with recommendations. I felt like I was being looked after by people who took pride in their work.

Facilities & Activities
The facilities and activities at The Prestige Hotel Penang are adequate. The beautiful rooftop infinity swimming pool was a hit with its expansive views, and the nearby gazebo offered cooling shade. The gymnasium was well-equipped, but small. The wi-fi was fast and stable throughout the hotel, and the shopping arcade was interesting. Didn't manage to try out the Whispering Wellness spa as they were closed across Chinese New Year / Lunar New Year 2026. Overall, I would recommend staying at The Prestige Hotel Penang, and hope to return again!

The Glasshouse Restaurant is the in-house all-day dining restaurant of The Prestige Hotel Penang. Ambience channels the same elegance as the rest of the hotel, being decently lit with gentle pastel colours, and sturdy comfortable furnishings. The food is laid out neatly, and is visually appealing. Service is likewise good, with staff being proactive and helpful, demonstrating good product knowledge in offering recommendations. They also clear away finished plates quickly, and clean up tables fast for turn around. Food features American, British, Malaysian, Indian, and Chinese cuisine, freshly prepared in batches daily. The kitchen is quick to replenish empty trays, and quality is above average. The buffet breakfast at The Glasshouse Restaurant is priced at MYR RM40 per person.

Their Coffee is freshly brewed, with a medium thin strength of body, and pleasant toasty earthy flavour with a light acidity. Good!

Ordered Eggs 2 Ways. There's fluffy soft creamy scrambled eggs with eggy milky sweet flavour, and soft bouncy tender egg omelette with eggy sweet savoury flavour. Seasoned both with a light sprinkling of salt and black pepper, for added salty peppery spice flavour kick. Served with a small salad of crunchy julienned carrots, crisp lettuce, juicy corn kernels, and crunchy purple cabbage, all with vegetal sweet flavour. Highly recommended!

Ordered the Traditional Malaysian Breakfast Set - Kaya Butter Toast And Soft-Boiled Eggs. This featured large crisp soft slices of toasted white bread with smoky bready sweet flavour, paired with creamy smooth pandan kaya / screwpine leaf coconut egg jam with floral earthy sweet flavour, and luscious creamy butter with buttery milky sweet salty flavour. On the side is runny soft-boiled chicken eggs, enhanced with salt, carrying eggy sweet savoury salty flavour. Highly recommended!

Tried the Nasi Lemak Sample. The fluffy moist butterfly pea coconut rice is fragrant with grainy earthy sweet flavour, while the bouncy hard-boiled chicken egg has straightforward eggy sweet flavour. The juicy cucumber slice has vegetal sweet flavour, while the crunchy deep-fried ikan bilis / anchovies are properly fishy salty savoury in flavour. The chunky sambal tumis / stir-fried chili paste has mild sweet salty spice flavour. Good!
