Description:
Nasi Penyet is a Malay dish from Java, Indonesia. Nasi Penyet consists of steamed white rice, served together with a piece of chicken, fish or beef, that has been battered, fried, then flattened / lightly smashed.

If chicken is served with Nasi Penyet, then it is called Nasi Penyet Ayam or Ayam Penyet. This is the most popular Nasi Penyet variation.

Normally, the thigh and drumstick of the chicken are used in this dish. Other parts of the chicken are never served.

If fish is served with Nasi Penyet, then it is called Nasi Penyet Ikan or Ikan Penyet.
Normally, the fish served is Pomfret fish or Cat fish (Ikan Keli).

If beef is served with Nasi Penyet, then it is called Nasi Penyet Empal or Empal Penyet.
Normally, the cut of beef steak used include the sirloin, short loin, rib, flank, brisket or round. The beef is often cooked to medium well, or well done.

Nasi Penyet is often garnished with lettuce, sliced cucumbers, sliced tomatoes, fried chinese firm dry tofu, a spicy chili and a fried soy bean patty (Tempeh).
