Introduction
Located about 30 minutes drive away from the Changi international airport in Singapore, the Grand Copthorne Waterfront hotel is a classic, 5-star business hotel. Best described as 'aging gracefully', the dated but classic look of the Grand Copthorne Waterfront hotel still manages to evoke a sophisticated and elegant air. While primarily catering to business travelers, and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) events, the place is also suitable for families, as they offer a range of activities.

Ambience
Ambience at Grand Copthorne Waterfront is classic but dated, yet still retains an elegant sophistication. Marble surfaces and a high ceiling lend the lobby a premium, luxurious feel. The hotel is clean, without the usual wear-and-tear or odours in other places that are dated, a plus point for them. The whole hotel, along with the accompanying convention centre, is huge. The executive lounge on the 29th floor offers a fantastic view of the Singapore River and surrounding Robertson Quay area, and is decently comfortable.

Room
Rooms at Grand Copthorne Waterfront are clean, spacious, and comfortable. I stayed at the Club Deluxe room, which offered a city view, and was equipped with both a shower and bathtub. There's even a comfortable lounging sofa for relaxing. The in-room wifi connectivity is fast and stable, although I felt the sturdy working desk was a little small. I also wish power points were more accessible. They have decent in-room amenities, which are restocked daily.

Food
Food at Grand Copthorne Waterfront is mostly provided by the all-day buffet dining restaurant, Food Capital. Here, they offer a small range of American, British, Chinese, Indian, and Singaporean cuisine. Dishes are generally well executed and decently tasty, and multiple visits show they can consistently achieve this standard. Grand Copthorne Waterfront hotel also boasts one of the best Italian restaurants around; Grissini. Here, you get authentic Italian cuisine which is both delicious and reasonably affordable.

Service
Service at Grand Copthorne Waterfront is good most of the time. Staff accord you personalised attention, but this also means increased waiting times to be served. They're polite and professional, and display generally sound knowledge of the hotel, its facilities, and the surrounding area. There are a couple of hiccups, for example, my card was charged incorrectly by a juinor staff, who insisted that he was correct. I had to track down a senior staff to assist, who promptly and quickly resolved the situation, which I'm thankful for.

Facilities & Activities
The facilities and activities at Grand Copthorne Waterfront have more variety than elsewhere. As a start, fitness enthusiasts can look forward to a well-equipped gym, which boasts more than the usual range of workout equipment for a hotel. There's even a nice-sized swimming pool, and 2 tennis courts outdoors. They're also known for their large convention centre which offers over 22 rooms that can accomodate groups of 8 - 1000 people. The Tour East (on the 3rd floor) office conducts organised tours around Singapore. Special in-house activities are held the first weekend of each month, such as baking or arts & crafts.
