Opening in April 2019, The Kins’ Specialty Coffee in the Pasir Panjang area of Singapore is a modern minimalist cafe, offering a mix of creative yet tasty fusion dishes and beverages. Founder of The Kins’ Specialty Coffee, Jervis Tan, is a Singaporean latte art champion (for several years running), so you're assured of good cuppas of coffee.
Ambience at The Kins’ Specialty Coffee has a modern minimalist vibe. Located within Bijou Condo but accessible to public, the place occupies two units - housing the espresso & desserts bar, and the hot kitchen respectively. The design is clean, with colours of white, wood, and grey, exuding a tranquil feel. The 15 indoor seats and 25 outdoor seats are comfortable and picturesque, benefiting from natural lighting and well-positioned greenery.
Service at The Kins’ Specialty Coffee is partial self-service, with ordering and payment over the counter. However, staff will serve orders to your table. Even during non-peak periods, there is usually a short wait of about 5 - 10 minutes, which increases if the place is crowded. The menu is clear, but this leaves little opportunity for staff to demonstrate product knowledge. I note they're efficient at cleaning up when diners leave.
Food at The Kins’ Specialty Coffee is Modern Fusion, a blend of European and Asian styles. Think American, French, Korean, and Japanese influences. They pull this off well, generally, dishes are hearty and tasty. However, the menu is small, and mostly consists of all-day breakfast items. Portions are medium to large for individuals, and can be shared. Prices are comparable to other cafes, budget about SGD $20 per person.

The Flat White (SGD $6) features a double shot of espresso, and has good strength in its body. With a smoky toasty roasted coffee aroma, this has a milky thick texture. Pretty good.

The Turmeric Latte (SGD $5) is a non-caffeine speciality beverage here. It features hot milk, enhanced with a house mix of powdered turmeric, powdered cinnamon, and other spices, finished with honey. This gives it a rich, warm, thick texture, with a calming earthy sweet milky spice flavour, and a pale yellow colour. Very enticing and soulful. Good!

Felt the Iced Chocolate (SGD $6) here was rather weak, with a thin, watery texture, and muted chocolate flavour. Not as deep, rich, or bitter sweet as I'd like. But the presentation in a clear glass is pretty. Could be improved.

The Eggs On Croissant With Smoked Duck (SGD $14) is a unique creative dish, that is ultimately average in taste on the palate. The croissant has a slightly crisp exterior and a slightly spongy soft interior, with good bready sweet flavour. Accompanied with fluffy soft creamy scrambled eggs sprinkled with herbs, which has good eggy sweet savoury flavour. Completed with shavings of chewy firm smoked duck, which has a light salty savoury meaty flavour. Overall satisfying and decent enough in taste, but it lacks something to pull it all together and make it memorable. Could be improved.

The visually colourful house signature dish, the Gochujang Grilled Chicken (SGD $16) is delicious. The large, juicy, tender chicken thigh is marinated in gochujang / fermented red chili paste, giving it a beautiful sweet savoury spicy shrimpy flavour. Grilled till it takes on a smoky aroma, it's served over creamy avocado guacamole, which has good vegetal earthy sweet flavour. Paired with a side of crunchy kimchi baechu / kimchi pickled cabbage, which complements with its vegetal sour sweet flavour; and crisp thick cut potato fries, with salty starchy potato flavour. Delicious, I enjoyed every bite. Highly recommended!

The Burnt Cheesecake (SGD $7.50) is done Basque style, hailing from the region bordering France and Spain. The difference lies in the texture; wobbly and creamy smooth on the inside, soft and spongy dense on the outside, with a slightly crisp burnt crust. Served with sweetened whipped cream on the side, it's like a cross between a cheesecake, a crème brûlée, and a custard pudding. Has a delicate smoky cheesy sweet milky flavour. Yum. Highly recommended!
