Established in May 2002 by founders Lukasz Gadowski and Matthias Spiess in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, Spreadshirt is an online, e-commerce, print-on-demand shop for custom printed clothing and accessories. Specialising particularly in wearable tops (shirts, t-shirts, hoodies, polo-tees, etc.) as well as bags, the unique selling point of Spreadshirt is the freedom to create and print your own designs on clothing.

The beauty of Spreadshirt is the ability to upload your own creative designs to their platform, which is hassle-free and intuitive, then have it printed on your choice of clothing, without any minimum quantity. This revolutioned the print-on-demand market, as anyone could now go onto Spreadshirt and create their own customised clothing products at low risk. Spreadshirt utilises a global supply chain of manufacturers; for example, my order of pique polo-tees were produced by Harriton in India; other clothing is printed by different manufacturers elsewhere.

The quality of clothing from Spreadshirt is average, meant to be everyday wear, replaceable in 1 - 3 years. Spreadshirt products are meant to be affordable, priced at USD $16 (SGD $22) per piece of men's t-shirt, USD $27 (SGD $36) per piece of men's polo-tee, or USD $17 (SGD $23) per piece of tote bag. But with international shipping of USD $43 (SGD $57) factored in, the overall price just skyrockets. Duration from production to delivery is about 2 weeks. Still, Spreadshirt remains a viable option for making clothing that carries your own designs.
