Beginning as a humble Chinese Zi Char hawker stall in 1999, Jing Long Seafood Restaurant grew popular through word-of-mouth for their delicious and hearty Modern Chinese dishes, eventually transiting into a full-fledged Chinese restaurant at their current premises in November 2009. More than a decade on, Jing Long Seafood Restaurant remains a stalwart bastion of exquisite Chinese cuisine, garnering awards for their visually impressive dishes with bold fresh flavours, being reowned for their attention to detail.

Ambience at Jing Long Seafood Restaurant is bright, clean, and casual. The place seats up to 15 tables indoors and 20 outdoors (in a sheltered area), with a clean, minimalist look. Sturdy table-clothed furnishings lined with comfortable chairs lend well to meals with family or friends, and with prevailing safe distancing measures, ambient chatter in the background is fairly low overall. They're usually fully booked, so advance reservations are a must.

Service at Jing Long Seafood Restaurant is friendly and fast. Staff are quick to seat guests, and orders are quickly served, particularly if you'd placed advance orders. The process of placing advance orders is smooth and hassle-free, with staff contacting the reservation guest list via whatsapp for their advance orders. I like that staff proactively offer to clear finished plates throughout the meal, offer a change of cutlery, and they also clean up quickly when diners leave.

Food at Jing Long Seafood Restaurant is Modern Chinese cuisine, with dishes drawing on Chinese Teochew and Chinese Hokkien influences. Several of their original dishes are now copied by other stalls, such as their Chai Poh Tofu Bean Curd. Ingredients are fresh, and dishes consistently well executed with bold clean flavours. Portions are sized for sharing. Prices are comparable to most restaurants, budget about SGD $39 per person.

The Tea Pu-Erh (SGD $1.50) here is rather weak, serving its purpose as a thirst-quencher, but won't please tea enthusiasts.

The Soy Braised Peanuts (SGD $1.50) feature peanuts braised in light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, star anise, cinnamon, 5-spice powder, palm sugar, and garlic. These Chinese Teochew style braised peanuts are tender soft without being mushy, and have deep earthy herbal salty sweet savoury flavour. Served as an appetizer at the start of a meal. Good!

Loved the Fried Fish Skin With Salted Egg Yolk (SGD $14.80)! Their version of You Tiao With Sotong Paste (SGD $11.80) is among the best I've had. The hot crisp you tiao / fried dough fitter shatters beautifully, revealing the generous stuffing of bouncy moist squid paste within. Has a mild sweet savoury salty grainy flavour, yummy. Served with a rich creamy mayonnaise with milky sweet notes. Best eaten quickly when hot. Highly recommended!

Felt the Fish Maw With Crab Meat Broth (SGD $24.80) here is a little weaker compared to elsewhere. While the thick soup / broth is properly earthy sweet savoury in flavour, I missed the sweet notes of egg within. But they're generous with the spongy fish maw, tender shiitake mushrooms, crunchy black fungus / cloud ear fungus, and chunks of fresh deshelled crab, which pick up the flavours of the soup / broth well. Add black vinegar and white pepper for an enhanced tangy sour bitter peppery kick. Could be improved.

Wholesome. Good!

Comforting and fortifying, so good. Reasonable value too. Highly recommended!
