"Happy wife, happy life". While trying to satisfy his then-pregnant wife's cravings for a good cheeseburger, Tommy Wong started making his own burgers from scratch, experimenting with over 80 variations. It turned out so good that wife Janice suggested selling his burgers. Sales for his home-based cheeseburger business "went through the roof" in just a few months, leading to the setup of, in his words, "CB kia (cheese burger child)", with Nothing But Cheese Burger (NBCB) being established in February 2022. Since then, they've drawn a near constant queue during daily meal times.

Ambience at Nothing But Cheese Burger (NBCB) is casual and functional. The open 30-seater space boasts bright spot lights and modern metallic furnishings in shades of black and yellow. Neon signs proudly announce their presence, while television screens display the menu around the open kitchen. Expect to see short queues during peak periods, no reservations here so only walk-ins are allowed. They also tend to sell out around dinner so it's best to arrive early.

Service at Nothing But Cheese Burger (NBCB) is transactional but lacking. Our 1st visit was a disaster of miscommunication and frustration, and we ended up dining elsewhere. Subsequent visits were alright, staff tend to mumble and aren't very clear when speaking. It's also hard to tell where to queue, as I've observed queues for both ordering and seats, confusing customers and wasting their time when they had to re-queue. That said, staff are hardworking, and they take efforts to clean and sanitise each table for guests.

Food at Nothing But Cheese Burger (NBCB) is American cuisine, focused specifically on burgers and fries. The small but focused menu is clear with good descriptions of each item, all tongue-in-cheek named with vulgar Chinese Hokkien abbreviations. Quality of their burgers ranges from good to excellent, tasty and juicy and messy but incredibly satisfying. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are more affordable than other burger joints, budget about SGD $19 per person.

The Beer Lychee (SGD $12) is a fruit-based pale lager craft beer, brewed by the 1925 Brewing Company in Singapore. It has a pale golden colour, with aromas and tastes of rose, lychee, malt, and butter. The body is crisp, dry, yet refreshing, with a fruity sweet grainy flavour, and a subtle finish.

The Beer Liang Teh (SGD $12) is a floral-based lager craft beer, brewed by the 1925 Brewing Company in Singapore. It has a bright golden colour, with aromas and tastes of straw, white chrysanthemums, steel, and cereal. The body is light, cooling, and gentle, with a floral herbal sweet bitter flavour, and a short finish.

The Fries Of The Day (SGD $5.90) is named because they change the fries ever so often. I've seen photos of shoestring fries, criss-cut fries, and during our visit, we had Tater Tots. These were crisp crunchy little hashbrown-like nuggets of deep-fried potato, lovely with starchy salty savoury sweet flavour. Good!

The DCB (SGD $15.90), or Double Cheese Burger, features fluffy soft brioche bread buns, stacked with crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, soft cheddar cheese, 2 succulent minced beef patties, and the house secret sauce. Each beef patty is juicy and tender, with a bouncy bite that releases the delicious meaty savoury salty flavour of the beef. Paired with the rest of the vegetal sweet bready grainy flavours of the burger, this was so yummy and satisfying. Highly recommended!

The CCB (SGD $8.90), or Chicken Cheese Burger, features fluffy soft brioche bread buns, stacked with crisp lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, soft cheddar cheese, 1 succulent spiced chicken patty, and the house secret sauce. The chicken patty is juicy and tender, with a bouncy bite that releases the yummy meaty sweet spicy savoury flavour of the chili marinated chicken. Paired with the rest of the vegetal sweet bready grainy flavours of the burger, this was so delicious and satisfying. Highly recommended!
