Established around September 2013, Dutch Colony Coffee Co. quickly drew queues for their reliable and robust coffee, considered among the better options around at the time. Since then, Dutch Colony Coffee Co. has expanded to several more outlets across Singapore, and they continue to be a reliable go-to cafe for unpretentious and tasty bakes, coffee, and desserts.
Ambience at Dutch Colony Coffee Co. is clean, bright, and minimalist. The white walls, functional modern furnishings, and bright lamps overhead, have an alluring simplicity. A large glass display, stocked with their range of pastries and cakes, beckons to those passing by. Calming lounge music in the background creates an easy atmosphere for chilling.
Service at Dutch Colony Coffee Co. is partially self-service, though staff will helpfully brief you on using the online ordering platform with its digital menu. Orders are fulfilled with a short wait, and staff introduce the dish as they serve. I note they clean up relatively quickly when diners leave. There's little other opportunity for engagement or demonstration of knowledge.
Food at Dutch Colony Coffee Co. draws on British, French, American, and Italian cuisine. They offer straightforward cafe fare, baked pastries, dessert cakes, and a decent range of beverages. They've introduced a hot kitchen, enabling them to serve a small range of mains. Quality is average to good. Portions are medium to large for individuals. Prices are similar to other cafes, budget about SGD $24 per person.

A lovely Coffee Hot Flat White (SGD $6.20), brewed with Ethiopian Koke Shalaye Yirgacheffe, a single-origin natural coffee bean that releases notes of mulberry, blueberry, pineapple, and rose apple. Good!

A smooth Coffee Iced Long Black (SGD $6), brewed with a Dutch blend of 60% Brazilian Fazenda Capim Branco and 40% Ethiopian Koke Shalaye Yirgacheffe, the coffee bean carrying notes of milk chocolate, caramel, cacao nib, and black raisins. Good!

The Coffee Iced Mocha Anniversary Blend (SGD $7.50) is brewed with a house special anniversary blend of 33% Ethiopian Halo Berity Yirgacheffe, 33% Ethiopian Aricha Wubanchi Yirgacheffe, and 34% Peruvian Israel Carranza, then mixed with cocoa powder. Smooth with chocolatey toasty earthy fruity floral sweet flavour, this carries taste profiles of strawberry, golden kiwi fruit, glazed sugar doughnut, and chocolate creme. Highly recommended!

Their rendition of Hot Chocolate (SGD $5.50) is deep and rich, robust with chocolatey milky sweet flavour. I opted for low-fat milk, which meant this was lighter on the palate than other versions. Also love how precise the chocolate art is. Warm and comforting, so yummy. Good!

The Coco Brew (SGD $7.50) is a house signature cooler, made from a blend of coconut water, cold brew coffee cubes, and sour plum juice. The result is a refreshing beverage, with lovely earthy floral sour bitter sweet smoky flavour. Great thirst quencher. Good!

By all accounts, this is an average Turkey Ham & Spinach Quiche (SGD $8.50), nothing particularly worth shouting about. The crumbly outer pastry crust of the quiche is buttery savoury sweet, breaking apart to reveal the filling of soft custard, crunchy spinach, and tender turkey ham slices, all steaming hot, with vegetal meaty savoury salty sour sweet flavour. Decent at best.

The Shepherd's Pie (SGD $8.50) is average at best. The great thing about this shepherd's pie is the flaky buttery savoury bready sweet pie crust. Crack it open to find the generous portion of piping hot filling within, including tender minced beef, creamy mashed potatoes, and soft carrots, all combined for a meaty starchy vegetal sweet salty savoury flavour. The ratio of carrots and potatoes is more than the minced beef though, making this a tad less satisfying. Could be improved.

The Blackberry & Feta Toast (SGD $17) caught my eye while browsing the menu, as seasonal blackberries are rather uncommon in dishes. This has a base of crisp crunchy toasted sourdough bread, covered with chunky mashed avocado, crumbly feta cheese, juicy blackberries, and crisp shallot mignonette (a rich sauce of minced shallots, white vinegar, and rice vinegar), all sprinkled with a little iodized salt, cracked white pepper, and cracked black pepper. Combined, this holds lovely bready sour nutty vegetal earthy sweet zesty fruity milky flavours, nicely yummy. Added a duo of overeasy eggs on the side, whose eggy sweet savoury flavour complements well. Am so glad I ordered this, very happy with it. Highly recommended!

Has lovely bready eggy savoury sweet salty peppery spice flavour, delicious. Served with fresh crisp mesclun salad (with mizuna, baby spinach, chard, cherry tomatoes) on the side, lending vegetal bitter herbal sweet flavour. A great all-day breakfast dish. Highly recommended!

The Carbonara Linguine With Grilled Chicken (SGD $20) is delicious. The linguine pasta noodles bordered chewy and soft, piled high in the middle of the plate, coated in rich cream thickened with egg and cheese, carrying lovely eggy sweet salty savoury cheesy flavour. Slices of tender ham, with meaty salty savoury flavour, accompany. Around the edges, I opted to add chunky juicy boneless chicken thigh pieces marinated in a house spice mixture, resulting in an addictive meaty spice savoury sweet flavour. Highly recommended!

The Chicken Pesto Cream Linguine (SGD $18) was the 1st dish I ever ate at Dutch Colony Coffee Co, and its perfect execution and delicious taste affirmed my desire to return for more. The linguine pasta noodles bordered chewy and soft, piled high in the middle of the plate, coated in rich house-made pesto cream which is bright with vegetal milky herbal sweet earthy flavour. Surrounding are juicy fresh cherry tomatoes with vegetal sweet notes, and chunky juicy boneless chicken thigh pieces marinated in a house spice mixture carrying addictive meaty spice savoury sweet flavour. Finished with shredded parmesan cheese with cheesy salty notes, and a runny sous vide soft poached egg whose silky texture and eggy sweet flavour complements the pesto gravy excellently. Highly recommended!

Studded with bits of crunchy peanuts that lend a nice texture. Has robust chocolatey salty sweet nutty flavours that contrast beautifully, yet it's not overly heavy on the palate. Highly recommended!

Inspired by the traditional kueh-kueh, the Ondeh Ondeh Cake (SGD $7.50) is nicely pleasant. Has large soft fluffy layers of pandan / screwpine leaf infused cake, interspersed with strips of gula melaka / palm sugar infused cake, topped with rich gula melaka / palm sugar buttercream and thick caramel.
