Established at some point before February 2017, Gopuek Godum / โกเผือกโกดำ / Black Taro Shop is a humble breakfast eatery that's off-the-beaten track in a quiet area of Chang Phueak. The initial attraction is their signature photo-worthy multi-coloured custard dip, but customers return time and again to Gopuek Godum for their other breakfast dishes, which are comforting, soulful, delicious, and wallet-friendly.
Ambience at Gopuek Godum is simple and casual, with natural lighting and some florescent lights illuminating the simple wooden tables and stools. Light breezes waft through the small but open space, while the corrugated metal steel roof overhead keeps out rain. The place is most crowded during breakfast, and short queues are expected.
Service at Gopuek Godum fast. This is a street-side eatery after all, so don't expect much. The menu has helpful Thai and English descriptions, and the order chit has clear prices. Staff fulfil orders quickly, and clean up tables fast when diners leave. The open kitchen lends a bit of theatre, particularly when staff are making their signature multi-coloured custard dip.
Food at Gopuek Godum is a fusion of Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. Dishes are simple breakfast staples; noodles, congee, toast, all consistently well-executed and tasty. Customers return for these delicious comfort staples. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are wallet-friendly and affordable, budget about THB ฿157 / SGD $6 per person.

The photo-worthy / insta-worthy Khanom Pang Ping Sangkhaya Nom / Toast With Flavoured Milk Custard (THB ฿55) is the visually-appealing star here, but the true breakout taste influencers are the Khanom Pang Than Rad Nom Khon Wan Lae Namtan Sai Daeng / Charcoal Toast With Condensed Milk And Brown Sugar (THB ฿50) and Gafeh Rawn Nom / Hot Milk Coffee (THB ฿35), which were so good we ordered more, and even recommended them to tourists at the next table.
