Founded by Yang Guo Fu (and named after himself) in September 2003 in Harbin, Heilongjiang, People's Republic Of China, casual eatery Yang Guo Fu Mala Tang expanded into Singapore in November 2020. Yang Guo Fu Mala Tang is popular for its soups, stewed over hours and more approachable than other fiery versions from their competitors; as well as its wide range of fresh ingredients, resulting in filling and wholesome meals.
Ambience at Yang Guo Fu Mala Tang is bright, clean, and buzzing. The functional modern décor contrasts with its street‑food roots, while the ingredient counters exude a bustling market‑style energy with people queuing. The space feels approachable, designed for quick meals yet comfortable enough to linger. Expect a short 10 minutes queue for seats.
Service at Yang Guo Fu Mala Tang is friendly, efficient, and hardworking. Pick a bowl, select from a wide variety of fresh ingredients, including meats, vegetables, seafood, and more, then weigh it and make payment over the counter. The Soup Beef Mala is made by slow‑simmering premium beef bones and oxtail, with Sichuan mala peppercorns, white sugar, milk, dried red chili, garlic, ginger, and star anise, for about 8 hours. The result is a balanced and layered soup / broth, creamy thin and packed with milky sweet savoury salty spice flavour, very drinkable. Mildly numbing, without the harsh fiery kick in other versions elsewhere.
The Beef Ball is bouncy with meaty savoury flavour, the Beef Shank is tender with meaty savoury flavour, the Beef Fat is stringy with fatty meaty salty flavour, the Tang Oh / Garland Chrysanthemum is crisp with vegetal herbal sweet flavour, the Green Coral Lettuce is crisp with vegetal sweet flavour, the Potato is crunchy with starchy sweet earthy flavour. The Cheese Tofu is delicious, springy bouncy with grainy cheesy salty sweet flavour.

The Dry Sesame Peanut Mala Mix Paste is made by blending and frying a mix of chili oil, Sichuan mala peppercorns, sesame paste, sesame oil, garlic paste, crushed peanuts, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, white vinegar, and dried red chili. The result is a balanced and layered gravy paste, creamy thick and packed with savoury sweet salty sour spice earthy nutty flavour, so addictive. Mildly numbing, it's served on the side, while the ingredients are simply boiled.

Inspired by the Thai dish, their Soup Tom Yum is made from a blend of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, lime juice, tamarind, galangal, shallots, red chili, fish sauce, prawn shells, and water, simmered for at least 3 hours. The result is a punchy and enticing soup / broth, cloudy thin and packed with sweet sour savoury salty herbal earthy spice flavour, yum. Tingles the palate, making you crave more.
