Founded by Earle Swensen in San Francisco, California, United States Of America, in 1948, Swensen's is a beloved ice cream parlour known for its outsized sundaes and delicious mains and appetizers, as well as its retro diner-style decor. Arriving in Singapore in 1979, Swensen's quickly become synonymous with celebrations throughout life; from birthdays and post‑exam treats, to family dinners and more. Today, Swensen's retains a familiar charm that resonates across generations of Singaporeans.

Ambience at Swensen's is warm, unpretentious, and nostalgic. The bright spot lights and low ambient lights lend an intimate feel, with the cozy booth seats and sturdy wooden and metal furniture being comfortable, suitable for lingering meals. The signature Tiffany‑style lamps create a casual, family‑friendly atmosphere that hasn’t changed much since the early days.

Service at Swensen's has been consistently friendly and efficient. Staff are patient and demonstrate good product knowledge, though you'll need to attract their attention to clear finished plates. Cleaning up is done leisurely. The manager is courteous and professional, and the team works smoothly during peak hours to fulfil orders quickly. Note there is a short wait for sundae creation.

Food at Swensen's is American and Italian cuisine. This casual dining restaurant balances comforting classics with fun seasonal items, and there's something for all ages, from breakfast to dinner. Portions are large and generous, with quality being consistently good. Prices are reasonable for weekly dining, budget about SGD $30 per person for a meal here.

Served with a duo of dipping sauces, which change from time-to-time. Add SGD $1 to perfume with truffle oil, for enhanced earthy flavour. Good!

Deep-fried till a lovely golden brown, the outside crunches satisfyingly, then you get the tender juicy interior, and a hit of the bold meaty spice salty savoury flavour. Tasty appetizer. Highly recommended!

Ordered the Egg Omelette (SGD $14.90) with a filling of tender sliced chicken ham and juicy button mushrooms, enveloped in a fluffy soft egg omelette made with whisked chicken eggs. This carries meaty eggy earthy savoury sweet flavours. Served with crunchy chilled coleslaw with vegetal sweet milky notes, and piping hot crisp fluffy American potato fries with addictive starchy salty savoury flavour. Execution of every component is spot on. Highly recommended!

The Carbonara Smoked Duck Baked Rice (SGD $15.90) is a decadent plate of fluffy white rice, chewy smoked duck slices, wispy chicken egg, creamy bechamel sauce (all-purpose flour, butter, milk), and gooey melted mozzarella cheese. The juices and flavours infuse every part of the baked dish, creating a fragrant aroma, and carry meaty savoury cheesy salty milky grainy eggy sweet flavour. Highly recommended!

Ordered the Salmon Fish Fillet (SGD $19.90) which features a large deboned pan-seared salmon fish fillet with a tender juicy flaky texture and smoky fishy sweet savoury fatty flavour. Served over a bed of chunky smooth mashed potatoes with starchy savoury earthy buttery salty flavour, accompanied by fresh crunchy sautéed snow peas with vegetal earthy grassy sweet herbal flavour, and juicy corn on the cob chunks with vegetal grainy sweet flavour. Highly recommended!

The Chicken In A Basket (SGD $18.90) features 3 medium sized deep-fried bone-in chicken parts - chicken wing, chicken thigh, and chicken drumstick. The chicken is coated in a crisp crunchy golden brown seasoned flour batter, with a light savoury salty spice flavour. Cut in, and you get the juicy tender chicken meat, having a delicate sweet savoury flavour. The small amount of chicken fat is easily removed. Served with a side of fresh crunchy coleslaw of cabbage, carrots, and pineapple, carrying vegetal sweet milky flavour; as well as piping hot medium thick shoestring potato fries with starchy salty savoury flavour. Super filling. Highly recommended!

The We Meat Again Platter (SGD $30.90) features a hearty combo of succulent sirloin beef steak grilled till medium rare, with a tender chewy texture and smoky meaty savoury salty flavour; alongside chunky boneless chicken thigh fillet grilled perfectly, with a tender juicy texture and smoky meaty savoury sweet flavour. The duo of meat is accompanied by your choice of a duo of sides; I opted for the seasonal garden vegetables (broccoli and cherry tomatoes) which were tender and juicy with vegetal grassy sweet flavour; and the steak cut potato fries which were crisp and fluffy with starchy salty savoury flavour. Completed with a thick black pepper sauce which lends peppery salty spice flavour. Good!

The Sticky Chewy Chocolate Sundae (SGD $11.80) is my favourite ice cream sundae, of all time. Rich and luscious scoops of creamy thick sticky chewy chocolate ice cream with chocolatey bitter sweet flavour, coated in thick chocolate fudge sauce, topped with airy whipped cream, chocolate coated cherry, chocolate chips, and a half chocolate coated biscuit wafer. Loved the richness of this decadent dessert, have been enjoying this since I was a child, all the way till today. Highly recommended!

The Banana Split Sundae (SGD $12.90) is a nostalgic blast-from-the-past. A trio of rich and luscious scoops of creamy thick ice cream; chocolate ice cream with chocolatey bitter sweet flavour, strawberry ice cream with fruity sour sweet flavour, and vanilla ice cream with earthy floral milky sweet flavour, line the glass base in a straight row. On each side is a halved banana, tender with fruity earthy sweet flavour. Over the top is sprinkled crunchy almonds with nutty flavour, and swirls of fluffy whipped cream with milky sweet flavour. Finished with a half chocolate coated biscuit wafer. Highly recommended!

Selected the creamy thick Chocolate Ice Cream with chocolatey bitter sweet flavour, and the creamy thick Strawberry Ice Cream with fruity sour sweet flavour. Selected the toppings of crunchy Granola with grainy nutty earthy flavour, thick Hot Chocolate Fudge with chocolatey milky sweet flavour, and juicy Fresh Strawberry with fruity sour sweet flavour. Completed with a crisp fragile Swensen's branded wafer biscuit with grainy sweet flavour. Enjoyed this playful dessert. Highly recommended!

Selected the toppings of crunchy diced Almonds with nutty flavour, the sticky Caramel sauce with candied earthy sweet flavour, and the crisp Hazelnut Wafer with chocolatey grainy nutty sweet flavour. Completed with a crisp fragile Swensen's branded wafer biscuit with grainy sweet flavour. Enjoyed this playful dessert.
