The Rappers: 
Darth Vader – Born Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader is a villainous Sith Lord, and a central character in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. Originally a Jedi Knight who fell to the dark side of the Force, he is ultimately redeemed when he sacrifices himself to save his son. He is responsible for the countless deaths of innocent lives. Darth Vader is synonymous with a powerful form of evil in both pop culture and political discourse. 


Adolf Hitler – A dictator of Nazi Germany, mainly responsible for the rise of Fascism in Europe, instigating World War II, and the mass genocide of the Holocaust. He is the face of Nazism, and widely recognized as a personification of evil. Adolf Hitler's supremacist and racially motivated policies resulted in the systematic murder of eleven million people.

Textual Analysis:
Adolf Hitler’s Background – A mix of grays and whites, reminiscent of black and white television broadcasting in the 1930s to 1940s. World War II also took place during this period of history, from 1939 to 1945.

Darth Vader’s Background – A spinning triangle, also in a mixture of grays and whites, but with an industrial patterned texture on the walls, reminiscent of the interior of Imperial Star Destroyers, or the Death Star.

Stanza 1 – Adolf Hitler:
I am Adolf Hitler Commander of the Third Reich
  • ·         The Third Reich refers to Nazi Germany, of which Hitler was its leader. ‘Reich’ translates to ‘Realm’ or ‘Empire’.
  • ·         Hitler does the Nazi Salute in the background.

  • ·         ‘Dope’ is a slang term meaning ‘Cool’ or ‘Awesome’. Here, Hitler is boasting he is a great rapper.
You are Vader With your little boots and cape And helmet to cover up That burnt-ass face
  • ·         Hitler mocks Vader for being disfigured by burns from molten lava. Vader’s outfit is part of his life-support system keeping him alive.
You have the force to move objects I am a force truly evil
  • ·         Hitler refers to the ‘Force’, a mystical energy field that Vader can use to his advantage. However, he claims to be a ‘Force’ personified.
  • ·         Hitler does a juggling move in the background, reminiscent of entertainers, jugglers, or clowns, thus insulting the Force.

  • ·         There are numerous pop cultural examples of a character going back in time to kill Hitler, such as the Twilight Zone episode, “No time like the past”. Going back in time to kill Hitler is also an oft-cited example when discussing the Grandfather Paradox.
  • ·         The original Star Wars trilogy was updated by the release of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. From a continuity perspective of real-time, this is similar to traveling back in time.

  • ·         Vader is performing a dance move known as the ‘Robot’ in the background.

  • ·         Spaceballs is a spoof on Star Wars. Actor Rick Moranis plays the parody of Darth Vader, known as ‘Dark Helmet’.

Stanza 2 – Darth Vader:

  • ·         The Dark side of the Force is the counterbalance to the Light Side of the Force. A quote by Vader from the movies is “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side!”

  • ·         Vader talks trash here as Hitler’s mom, Klara Hitler Pölzl, had only one husband. Rather, it was Hitler’s father, Alois Hitler, who had multiple wives, and was actually Klara Hitler Pölzl’s cousin, thus making their marriage incestuous.
  • ·         An iconic quote by Vader in the movies is “Luke, I am your father!”

  • ·         Vader insults Hitler by insinuating that he has a small penis.

  • ·         The term 'Dirty Sanchez' describes the unintentional act of leaving a fecal matter "moustache" on a partner's face. This act is also called a ‘Stinky Hitler’.
  • ·         Vader is performing a dance move known as the ‘Moonwalk’ in the background. This dance move was popularized by the singer Michael Jackson.

  • ·         ‘The Sorcerer's Apprentice’ is a German poem published in 1797. The 1940 Disney film ‘Fantasia’ popularized the poem. The term has since passed into popular culture, and has been used in various media.
  • ·         In the poem, the apprentice is a bumbling wizard who inadvertently misuses powerful magic, and is reprimanded by the master wizard.

  • ·         Hitler insults Vader’s rap performance, implying that it is rotten and rancid, with a foul odor.

  • ·         ‘Dawg’ is a slang term meaning ‘Friend’. Hitler uses it sarcastically.
  • ·         Hitler’s ‘shower’ refers to the gassing chambers of World War II, where thousands of people were forced into communal showers, and gassed to death.

  • ·         Hitler was known for his excellent oratorical ability, and speeches that roused the fervor of the Germans.
What’s your lightsaber versus A clan of all your white neighbors?
  • ·         A lightsaber is a weapon in Star Wars, very similar to a sword, and used in hand-to-hand combat by Jedi and Sith. Vader’s lightsaber projects a red blade.
  • ·         Among Hitler’s many beliefs, was the belief of White Supremacy, and the restoration of the Aryan race.
  • ·         The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is an extremist group that also believes in White Supremacy.

Stanza 4 – Darth Vader:
Suck my robot balls Now take a step back
  • ·         Vader is a cyborg, his body rebuilt with cybernetic parts after he was horribly disfigured by molten lava.
  • ·         Vader performs the ‘Force Choke’ and ‘Force Pull’ moves on Hitler.
  • ·         As Hitler is pulled toward Vader, he transits from Black-and-White to full Color.
And let me freeze yours off A little Carbonite bath For your goose stepping ass
  • ·         Carbonite is a fictional element in Star Wars. Carbonite freezing is very similar to cyro-statis, where an object or person frozen within is kept alive, but inert.
  • ·         Hitler is frozen with a horrified look on his face, similar to the expression on Han Solo’s face when he was frozen in carbonite in Star Wars.

  • ·         Hitler was known for his hatred against Israel and the Jewish race.
  • ·         ‘Homeboy’ is a slang term meaning ‘A close friend’. Here, Vader says that Hitler’s hatred enemies are his close friends.
  • ·         A stormtrooper from Star Wars answers Vader’s call in the background.
  • ·         Vader won this rap battle in continuity.
