The Beginning And The End
.....
Grateful to catch 'The Philharmonic Orchestra Presents Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 1 & 9' in concert. The Philharmonic Orchestra is celebrating their 15th anniversary in 2017, and to commerate their many years of music-making, are presenting the complete symphonies of Ludwig Van Beethoven (all 9 of them), alongside The Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the NAFA Chamber Choir.
The Philharmonic Orchestra, led by music director, conductor, and founder Lim Yau, comprises young adults who are dedicated to the study and performance of seminal orchestral literature, especially that of composers who shaped the evolution of the Western symphony. In that regard, Ludwig Van Beethoven and his 9 symphonies are a perfect showcase of their talents.

The Stage |
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21, exhibits all the traits one associates with the composer; brash, uncompromising, passionate, and experimental. Parts of it are considered to be a deviation from tradition, a comedy of musical manners.

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 Curtain Call |
Conductor Lim Yau simultaneously led the orchestra and both chamber choirs, an outstanding feat. His movements were filled with energy and purpose, and towards the end, he almost seemed mad, like he was possessed by the spirit of composers past, so great and vast was his conducting.

Orchestral Tuning |
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, 'Choral', stands at the pinnacle of Western Classical music, so massive was its scope and its historical importance. It is a testament to the possibilities of the symphonic form.
