Opening in August 2018, Amber Ember is a chic casual cafe, specialising in coffee and jaffles. What's jaffles? Well, it's a sort of toasted bread sandwich, with a variety of either sweet or savoury options. As such, Amber Ember is positioned as a breakfast / brunch sort of cafe. They've recently introduced a dinner menu too.
Ambience at Amber Ember is warm, casual, and inviting. The dull pastel colours of pink and beige adorn the walls, the warm amber lights contrasted harshly by bright natural sunlight. Wooden furniture and faux greenery complete the look. Poor ventilation results in a faint cooking / toasting odour that lingers in the air, and sticks to clothing.
Service at Amber Ember is partially self-service, with ordering and payment over the counter, though staff will serve orders to your table, and bring you cutlery. The menu is small and focused, and staff display decent product knowledge when asked. I like that they check for feedback as diners prepare to depart, and cleaning up is done quickly.
Food at Amber Ember is Modern Singaporean, a fusion mix of American, British, Italian, Korean, and Japanese. They serve jaffles sandwiches, light bites, or pasta dishes, those I ate were generally tasty and well executed. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are comparable to other cafes, budget about SGD $20 per person for a meal here.

The Hot White (SGD $5) coffee has a bold, robust strength to its body, with a smoky aroma of roasted coffee beans. Good!

The Cold Black (SGD $5) coffee has a mild roasted sweetness and a smooth body, with low acidity. Decent enough.

The pun-in-cheek named Jaffles Cheesus Take The Wheel (SGD $14) features crisp toasted jaffle sandwich bread, filled with a creamy house mac and cheese / macaroni and cheese, and a generous portion of tender chewy gochujang braised pork. Predominant flavours are savoury salty cheesy. Kudos for the good execution, because so many things could have gone wrong (it could be dry, gamey, flavours too strong or heavy) but didn't. Instead, this is well-balanced and delicious. Served with a side of creamy grainy mashed purple sweet potato, which has a delicate earthy sweet flavour. Good!

The Jaffles PB & J (SGD $6) is a dessert version, featuring crisp toasted jaffle sandwich bread, filled with thick sticky home made chunky peanut butter, sea salt, and a lovely blueberry compote. Drizzled with honey, this has bright fruity floral sweet nutty flavours. You can also choose to add-on a scoop of ice cream, for a more decadent dessert.

Was disappointed by the AFC Amber's Fried Chicken (SGD $12). While the chicken was hot and freshly fried, they've used frozen chicken, which comes with its own drawbacks in quality and taste. Would be so much better if fresh chicken was used. Fortunately, the house special honey sriracha sauce lends bold sweet spicy flavour, though I wish they served more of this as a dipping sauce on the side. The sauce is really tasty, and you can even pair it with other dishes.
