Beginning as a humble hot dog cart in 2001, Shake Shack opened a kiosk in July 2004 within Madison Square Park, Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States Of America (USA). As of 2020, they operate over 250 stores globally. Shake Shack is well-known for their limited menu that is consistently well-executed, and crowds gather for their excellent burgers, hot dogs, hand-spun milkshakes, and frozen custard ice cream.

Ambience at Shake Shack is a step above most other fast food places. The clean and modern looking space is fairly open, with some private corners. Shades of white, black, green, and wood abound, warmly lit by low hanging decorative lamps. The wide booth seats are decently comfortable, as are the high perch stools, but because the place is usually crowded, there are queues for ordering and for seats. I like the vibrant cartoon decor wallpaper too.

Service at Shake Shack is factory-line efficient, and speedy. Queues to order are cleared like clockwork, and order fulfillment averages around 10 minutes of waiting time, really quick. Don't expect much product knowledge from staff though, as conversations hold up the queue. Cleaning up is best performed self-service, though I note staff do try to keep up. With clear signages and an orderly process, getting a meal here is painless and easy, even with the crowd.

Food at Shake Shack is American style fast food, focusing on burgers, hot dogs, hand-spun milkshakes, and frozen custard ice cream. The menu is small, but each item is consistently well executed and delicious. Shake Shack is well regarded for using 100% all-natural Angus beef, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and non-GMO buns with an option for gluten-free. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are reasonable for the high-quality, budget about SGD $21 per person.

The Beer ShackMeister Ale (SGD $13.50) is an American Pale Ale (APA) style beer, brewed exclusively for Shake Shack by the Brooklyn Brewery in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States Of America (USA). It has a deep amber orange colour, with aromas and tastes of hops, white bread, pine, and grapefruit. The body is medium, zingy, and light, with moderate carbonation, a creamy white foam head, and bitter sweet grainy citrus tastes.

Their signature hand-spun milkshakes are medium thick, and have a deliciously smooth, creamy texture. The festive Christmas Cookie Shake (SGD $7.80) is inspired by Christmas sugar cookies, eaten by Shake Shack's culinary director Mark Rosati in his childhood. This seasonal shake is a blend of sugar cookie frozen vanilla custard, topped with whipped cream to resemble snow atop a mountain, finished with red and green candy sprinkles. It has a milky grainy sweet flavour, but overall, is rather unremarkable. The Salted Caramel Shake (SGD $6.90) fares well, with the blend of frozen vanilla custard laced with rich salted caramel. This lends a bold salty sweet milky flavour to the beverage, nice.

Has a thick, rich creamy texture, with a hint of grainy crunch, and a beautiful floral earthy sweet flavour. Resembles an onde-onde / klepon dessert in taste. Highly recommended!

With the only difference between the Fries (SGD $4.50) and Cheese Fries (SGD $5.90) being the thin, cheesy salty flavoured cheese sauce on top, you're better off going for the cheese version. Otherwise, the medium thick, crinkle cut potato fries in both versions have a soft crisp bite, with good starchy sweet flavour.

Shake Shack began as a hot dog cart, so the Flat Top Dog Set is among their original items. Their hot dogs use 100% all-natural Angus beef that is vegetarian-fed, humanely-raised, with no added growth hormones. The result is a hot dog sausage that is meaty, juicy, and deeply savoury salty, with a snappy crunch.

When their powers combine, you get the Shack Stack (SGD $14.30)! Everything in the Shroom Burger and Shack Burger makes it into this towering monster of a burger, making it a challenge to get everything in a single bite. Messy, decadent, but so comforting and satisfying. You could also try to deconstruct it before eating, which helps a little. Good!

The Chick'n Shack (SGD $9.20) is decently tasty, but not as memorable as their signature beef burgers. Still, this burger is good enough, featuring fresh crisp lettuce, a large breaded chicken breast fillet, and crunchy dill pickles, sandwiched between fluffy soft potato burger buns. This alternates between juicy, moist, dry, crunchy, crisp, and tender textures. Dressed with creamy buttermilk herb mayonnaise, each bite bursts with meaty salty savoury vegetal sweet herbal flavours. Worth ordering!
