I first got into the Samsung Galaxy S line of smartphones / mobile phones with the Samsung Galaxy S2 in 2011, followed by the Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013, and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge in 2016. Now I've gone with their latest release in 2021, the Samsung Galaxy S21+ (also known as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus). Developed to be the 1st 5G capable (the fifth generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks) mobile smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S21+ packs a wide range of features into a stylish handheld package, positioning it as the ultimate mobile smartphone amongst Android devices in 2021.

Roughly the length of your palm (at 75.6mm width x 161.5mm height x 7.8mm depth, in millimetres) and weighing around 200g (grams), the Samsung Galaxy S21+ feels moderately hefty. The back is covered in smooth Gorilla Glass, reowned for its superior drop-resistant damage and moderate scratch-resistant properties. The front has an exquisite 6.7-inch flat FHD+ (Full High Definition Plus) dynamic AMOLED 2X display screen that packs 2400 x 1080 pixels and a smooth adaptive screen refresh rate of up to 120Hz (hertz), making everything look so vibrant and sleek. Under direct sunlight, the Samsung Galaxy S21+ goes up to a peak luminance of 1,200cd/m² (nits), suficient for users to have bright, clear screen viewing. It's also tested IP68 waterproof, which is submersion in up to 1.5m (metres) of freshwater for up to 30 minutes, though it's still not recommended for use around beaches or pools.






Having a good camera on my mobile smartphone is really important for me, and the Samsung Galaxy S21+ certainly impresses, with the main camera and ultra-wide camera both at 12MP (megapixels), the telephoto camera at 64MP, and the front-facing camera at 10MP. The powerful 30X space zoom includes a 3X hybrid optical zoom which captures quick, clean, clear images; and the digital zoom works decently up to 10X, though anything beyond quickly deteriorates. Sufficiently powerful even for outdoor landscape photos (and also rather scary in urban settings). The addition of a new laser-assisted phase detection autofocus allows semi-smooth capture of moving subjects, while the fine-tuned night mode is able to produce scenic night photos with only minimal grainy noise. Video is crisp and stable, thanks to the super-steady mode. A whole range of editing tools, including the new Director's Cut view, is available to support.






Equipped with a Exynos 2100 chipset, 8GB RAM (gigabytes, random access memory), 256GB storage space capacity, and fast wired or wireless charging of its 4800mAh (milliampere per hour) battery which lasts up to 1.5 days, the Samsung Galaxy S21+ offers power in your hands. It's fast and stable when performing everyday tasks, and capable of handling high-performance activities like gaming, multi-tasking across apps, or viewing in split-screen mode. The dual stereo speakers by AKG Acoustics, surround sound with Dolby Atmos technology, and zoom in-recording with 3 microphones, all contributes towards the ultra high quality audio of the Samsung Galaxy S21+. It also boasts a wide variety of accessibility features for people with special needs, from a magnifier, to hearing aid support, to a universal switch. However, all these features lead up to a premium price of SGD $1,400 per phone, and it also doesn't come with a charger. Overall, am happy with the Samsung Galaxy S21+, and look forward to using it for some time to come.
