Introduction
Located about 30 minutes drive away from the Changi international airport in Singapore, Andaz Singapore is a 5-star luxury hotel co-located with the DUO Galleria mixed-use development. Presently in the midst of upgrading their facilities (as of February 2022), Andaz Singapore is built on one of the 2 land parcels co-owned by Malaysia in a historic 2010 land swop deal with Singapore, hence, the iconic Islamic-inspired architecture and design of the external facade, resembling a honeycomb.
Ambience
Ambience at Andaz Singapore exudes a modern luxury. Gleaming marble walls lit by warm decorative hanging lights, with window views across the city, evokes a sense of awe. However, the harsh sunlight streams in at certain points throughout the day, heating the place. Love the sharp angular lines along the corridor, with rooms lined in a wedge formation.
Room
Rooms at Andaz Singapore are spacious and comfortable. I'd used the Singapore Redicover Voucher (SRV), which only enabled me to book the Deluxe Room With City View. Love the spacious semi-hard bed, smart tv, comfortable loungy sofa, and spacious bathroom that comes with vanity area and open wardrobe. The artisanal soap in the rain shower and thoughtfully placed bidet are appreciated, as was the nespresso machine.
Food
Food at Andaz Singapore is delicious but eye-wateringly expensive. For SGD $70+, I had a delicious grilled jerk chicken that was perfectly grilled with incredible juicy succulent meat and accompanied by a bright pineapple salsa, a medium sized house special pandan / screwpine leaf chiffon sponge cake, and a cocktail. With a wealth of affordable and equally delicious food options in the nearby Bugis and Sultan Gate areas, you're better off dining elsewhere.
Service
Service at Andaz Singapore is frustrating. Staff are friendly, but perhaps overly stringent, though they carry out tasks quickly and efficiently. On one instance, we wanted to enquire if Alley On 25 offered ala-carte breakfast (instead of buffet breakfast), but a server redirected us to approch the staff at the restaurant entrance. Seeing a queue, we enquired at the main reception instead, only to be redirected again to the restaurant entrance, where we had to queue for 10 minutes just to ask a simple question which any of the other staff should have known. Absolutely terrible.
Facilities & Activities
The facilities and activities at Andaz Singapore were being upgraded during our visit, and the SRV disallowed use of facilities, so I consider my experience incomplete, and will probably have to return again in future. That said, Andaz Singapore is directly over the DUO Galleria, bordered by the Bugis and Sultan Gate areas, with lots to see, do, and eat.
