Since its first beach side kiosk was set up in May 1999, the Georges Group has since expanded across Singapore with no less than 6 outlets of Georges Bar. Typically located in slightly out of the way areas which are relatively quieter, Georges Bar generally tends to attract regulars, and those who prefer a quiet relaxing spot for drinks and good pub grub.

Ambience at Georges Bar is quiet and relaxing. Each outlet has a mix of both indoor and outdoor sheltered seating, with the al-fresco dining area generally being preferred (and also larger). Seats are wide, rustic, and comfortable, while the modern tables are decently sized. The place is usually lit by natural lights, and at dusk, by warm lamps which create an intimate, cosy feel.

Service at Georges Bar is energetic and efficient. The young staff move quickly, seating guests and taking orders, with some light banter. Decent product knowledge on the menu, and I note they clean up fast when diners leave. There's little conversation, though staff will share ongoing promotions. I wish the member app could be more user-friendly in placing orders or making payment.

Food at Georges Bar is Modern Singapore cuisine, drawing influences from American, British, French, Italian, German, Chinese, Indian, Malay, and Australian cuisines. There's a good range of bar snacks and mains, most of which is relatively well executed. Portions are large and hearty, and can be shared. Prices are comparable to most other bars, budget about SGD $48 per person.

The Beer Tiger Lager (SGD $10) is the iconic classic European pale lager and flagship beer of the Tiger Beer brand, brewed by the Heineken N.V. Group in Singapore. A bravely creative and unpretentious tropical pale lager, the Tiger Beer Lager pours a clear golden yellow colour with visible lively carbonation, and aromas of white bread, biscuits, apricot, and hops. The body is smooth, rounded, and crisp, with tastes of cornflakes cereal, honey, wheat, and corn. Has a clear bready sweet flavour with a light bitterness on the finish, pleasant and nicely refreshing.

The Beer Guinness Draught (SGD $15) is a dark Irish dry stout, named after Arthur Guinness, and is brewed by Diageo PLC in Dublin, Ireland. Among the most famous beers worldwide, this has a deep, dark black brown colour, with a creamy white foam head. The aroma and taste is similar, consisting of smoked malts, roasted coffee beans, faint caramel, and barley. The body is rich, velvety smooth, almost creamy, with a bitter sweet grainy flavour.

My personal favourite appetizer here is the Squid Balls (SGD $9.90), also known as Sotong Balls, a dish I order every chance I get when I visit Georges Bar. Yes, I can do it myself at home, but what I like about it here, is it's served hot and freshly fried. The squid balls are bouncy and juicy in texture, with lovely sweet savoury flavour. Great when paired with drinks. Highly recommended!
Update Nov-2022: The Squid Balls (SGD $10.90) still feature 8 pieces, and remain as tasty and enjoyable as before, but the price has increased slightly.

The Battered Fish Fingers (SGD $12.90) feature strips of boneless dory fish fillets, coated in a thin crisp beer batter. The dory fish is clean-tasting with a moist tender soft texture and sweet savoury salty flavour. Remains piping hot for quite awhile, so shiok. Cool it with the creamy tartar sauce dip, lending tangy sour vegetal milky sweet notes. Worth ordering!

The ever-popular Fried Squid Head (SGD $14.90) was taken off the menu for a short while, then brought back on popular demand. This features a basket, piled high with fried squid, not just heads, but tentacles as well. Coated in a crisp crunchy seasoned and spiced batter, the fresh squid carries mild sweet savoury salty spice flavour, utterly delicious. A great sharing snack for pairing with drinks. Highly recommended!

The Mussels Chili Marinara (SGD $23.90) feature small black mussels, decently cleaned, stewed in a broth of white wine, fresh diced tomato marinara, and red chili, an odd-tasting combination. This gives the small meaty tender mussels a bright vegetal sweet savoury salty spicy flavour. Portion size is sufficient for an individual, but not too filling. Accompanied by 3 thick slices of toasted garlic bread, crisp and fragrant with bready sweet spice herbal smoky flavour. However, the gravy doesn't appeal to me. Could be improved.

The Clams Ala Vino (SGD $18.90) features small little neck clams, decently cleaned, stewed in a broth of white wine, fresh diced garlic, and red chili, a visually-off combination. This gives the small meaty tender clams bright sweet savoury herbal salty spicy flavour. Portion size is sufficient for an individual, but not too filling. Accompanied by 3 thick slices of toasted garlic bread, crisp and fragrant with bready sweet spice herbal smoky flavour. However, the gravy doesn't appeal to me. Could be improved.

The Chicken Satay (SGD $15.90) features a set of 10 sticks of chicken satay. The chicken satay skewers are thick, tender, moist, and chunky, marinated in a house blend of spices, including cumin and turmeric. This results in a bold and addictive smoky meaty savoury spice sweet flavour. Served with juicy cucumbers with vegetal sweet flavour, crisp red onions with tangy sour vegetal flavour, and soft ketupat / rice cakes with mild grainy sweet notes. Highly recommended!

The Beer Battered Halibut Fish & Chips (SGD $24.90) is served in a large, filling portion. The medium chunks of clean-tasting, boneless halibut fish fillets are coated in a thin crisp beer batter, crunching satisfyingly to reveal the moist tender fish meat within. Has lovely sweet savoury salty flavour. The leafy crisp green and purple lettuce and juicy cherry tomatoes are dressed with thousand island sauce, resulting in a vegetal milky sweet spice flavour to the salad. Love the thick cut English chips, with the potatoes being fluffy crisp with starchy salty savoury flavour. A wedge of lemon and creamy tartar sauce completes. Highly recommended!

Georges Bar revamped their menu, and launched a range of skewers. The Skewers Chicken (SGD $2.50 per skewer) has tender juicy chicken thigh meat, with smoky sweet savoury salty flavour. The Skewers Pork (SGD $2.50 per skewer) has large chewy succulent pork belly with equal parts fat to lean meat, carrying meaty savoury salty spice flavour. The Skewers Seafood (Salmon) (SGD $2.90 per skewer) was rather generically named on the menu, I suppose so that they can change the ingredient, but on this visit, we had an excellent fresh salmon fish skewer, which was sweet salty in flavour, with a crisp light salmon skin and flaky moist salmon fish meat. Loved the Skewers Squid Balls (SGD $2.50 per skewer) as well, bouncy and juicy in texture, with lovely sweet savoury flavour. Good!
