While it resembles tofu bean curd, the Hand Made Jade Steamed Egg is actually soft spongy steamed egg cubes, topped with seaweed. With a mild eggy sweet salty earthy flavour, this was nicely enticing. Good!

Several of us took well to the Flower Clams With Milk Cabbage In Superior Broth, which features juicy chewy flower clams and crunchy milk cabbage, in a milky clam broth. Carries pleasant vegetal sweet briny salty milky flavour, yum. Good!

Loved the Steamed Sea Bass Fish With Preserved Radish And Garlic, which was highly rated. The tender succulent flaky sea bass fish is steamed simply, coming clean off the bones. The gravy of superior soy sauce, crisp preserved radish / chye poh, and crisp fried garlic, combine with the fish in harmony, carrying salty savoury earthy spice sweet flavour. Highly recommended!

The Wok-Fried Tiger Prawns With Premium Tea Leaves was interesting, as the inclusion of premium pu-erh tea leaves lends a earthy note to the meaty sweet savoury flavour of the juicy and succulent shell-on tiger prawns. Easy to peel, this was tasty. Good!

Loved the Emperor Chicken With Herbs, which is unwrapped tableside to reveal the whole baked chicken. Staff helped to slice it, and the chicken meat is so tender and succulent, falling clean off the bone. The rich herb gravy lends robust meaty sweet herbal savoury salty flavour, yum. Highly recommended!

The Knife-Cut Noodles With Braised Minced Pork is prepped tableside. The claypot base is filled with chewy knife-cut wheat noodles, bouncy fatty pork belly, and crunchy carrot strips, over which staff place the tender braised minced pork, then pour the gravy over and mix the entire dish vigorously. Each mouthful bursts with meaty salty savoury grainy sweet flavour. Highly recommended!

The Aloe Vera With Wheatgrass Juice is so refreshing, with the chilled bouncy clear aloe vera cubes and juicy wolfberry / goji berry gently picking up the syrup and wheatgrass juice, creating a beautiful vegetal sweet herbal flavour. Cleanses and refreshes the palate. Highly recommended!

An experimental new dish (and not part of the Parents Day set), the New Chicken (Dish Name To Be Confirmed) is essentially a fusion of Kung Pao Chicken and Sesame Oil Chicken, blending the flavours of both. The tender juicy boneless chicken chunks are marinated in a blend of the gravy made from both dishes, resulting in a meaty savoury salty spice nutty flavour, so nice. Highly recommended!

Original Post Jan-2023: Established since 1971, Goldleaf Restaurant is amongst the most famed Taiwanese porridge restaurants in Singapore, serving up their homely comfort food for over 4 decades. Time almost seems to stand still here, and regulars still flock to Goldleaf Restaurant for their classic, nostalgic dishes. On this return visit, we sampled their 2023 Lunar New Year festive set meal.

Us



Ambience at Goldleaf Restaurant is modern and functional. The brightly lit place with ample natural light is minimally decorated, with modern furnishings lined neatly within the spacious seating area. A display counter flanks a wall, serving as a food preparation area. There's a bustling atmosphere, but during quiet times, it's also rather pleasant.

Service at Goldleaf Restaurant is efficient and professional. Staff are quick to greet and seat guests, but there's now less interaction as the team has changed. Staff display average product knowledge, and offer to clear finished dishes and top up drinks throughout the meal. I note that training and guidance is stil being rendered, so standards should get better.

Food at Goldleaf Restaurant is focused on Chinese Taiwanese cuisine. Dishes are homely and simple, comforting and suitable for everyday dining. With traditional, authentic flavours, meals here offer a variety of choices. Portions are sized for communal group dining. Prices are reasonable, budget about SGD $108 per person for the festive set menu.

We enjoyed the Home Made Roast Chicken With Specialty Chili Dip, for the juicy tender roast chicken which has beautiful smoky salty sweet flavour. The chili was incredibly enjoyable too, so much so we ended up drizzling it over other dishes as well. It's spicy but not fiery, just tingling the palate. So good we wished for it to be bottled and sold.
