Glimpse Into The Next 50 Years Of Singapore

In 2015, Singapore celebrated SG50, our Golden Jubilee year. Having grown as a country over the last 50 years, we looked back on our short history, and realised how much our pioneers had contributed in building this nation, since we first gained independence in August 1965. Beginning in 2016, we've begun to look forward to the next 50 years, with The Future Of Us exhibition, an immersive, multi-sensory exhibition experience that offers a glimpse of Singapore's future.

Located next to the Meadows in Gardens By The Bay, The Future Of Us exhibition explores the various possibilities of how Singaporeans can live, learn, work, play, and care for others in the future. At The Future Of Us, Singaporeans will be encouraged to participate in building our nation for the future, and share the hopes and dreams we have, over 6 interactive, engaging zones which are all-ages accessible.

At The Future Express zone, visitors will discover the core values of Singapore through a mixed media installation, fast forwarding from 1965 to 2030. The 10-minute show at the Theatre Of Generations zone is held in an awe-inspiring 360 degree dome projection, showing the journey of 4 multi-racial Singaporeans in the future, and how they drew inspiration from the history of their families. This is followed by a 5-minute show at the Symphony Of The City zone, exploring the possibilites of integrated future transportation, living spaces, and recreational areas, showcased on a 270-degree LCD screen, among the largest ever built in Singapore!

The Home Tomorrow zone is an experiential zone, showcasing creative innovations and future lifestyle concepts, covering areas such as sustainable housing and living, future food, defence, medical care, leisure, and learning. The Blue Skies zone is a wishing well of sorts, allowing visitors to cast their hopes and dreams for the future, while The Lion zone is an all-inclusive outdoor play space. I like that The Future Of Us exhibition experience is seamlessly threaded with the stories of the 4 multi-ethnic future characters; designer Yi Xin, entrepreneur Faizal, social worker Joseph, and horticulturist Ravina.

If you're planning a visit to The Future Of Us exhibition, do note that while admission is free for all, this is a temporary exhibition that will be held from 01 December 2015 to 08 March 2016. Allocate less than 1 hour for viewing, in fact, the entire experience should not take longer than 40 minutes. Rather than just breeze through, it's recommended to ask the staff what each exhibit is about, for a more in-depth experience.
