This was an invited media review. I did not pay for the meal during the free hosted tasting session, but I did pay the standard price during prior and subsequent visits.

Having previously visited Morganfield's several times on occasion, I feel that they're rather consistent in the quality of ambience, service, and food. Morganfield's has grown to be a popular dining destination of choice, accessible and affordable enough even for students.
At Morganfield's, the ambience is modern, comfortable, and casual, well suited to communal dining or intimate dates. The service is efficient and courteous, staff make you feel welcome, and carry out requests quickly. The food is above average in quality, large in portion, and reasonably priced. The star dish remains their pork ribs / sticky bones. Budget about SGD $35 per person for a full meal here.

Several dishes are returning favourites, popular classics during previous festive seasons, while the line-up is completed with brand new offerings. Because everything is better with bacon. But what if you upgrade the bacon? The Candied Bacon (SGD $9.90) is such a version, a honey glazed strip of sweet savoury salty goodness, with a crisp texture and a hint of smoky aroma. Rather a tad sweeter than I would have liked, this delectable snack still went down a treat.

Featuring that tender, moist, fall-off-the-bone texture, the Hazelnut Sticky Bones (SGD $29.90 Half / $45.90 Full) of pork ribs is generously coated in a savoury and nutty hazelnut and barbecue sauce glaze. Served with cool coleslaw and piping hot medium thick fries, the aromatic pork ribs call to mind the woodland forests. Visually rather dark, but taste is pretty good.

A returning festive favourite, the Cranberry Sticky Bones (SGD $29.90 Half / $45.90 Full) features a slab of tender, moist, pork ribs coated in a fruity sweet savoury cranberry sauce glaze, topped with nuggets of juicy cranberries. Bright, sharp sour sweet burst of flavours, this dish is served with a refreshing chilled coleslaw and fluffy medium thick fries.

The star of this year's Christmas feast is definitely the Black Angus Beef Rib (SGD $89.90). A giant slab of bone-in meat, delicately sliced by the chefs at the carving station to reveal the medium doneness of the beef. Visually dark from being braised then glazed with hickory barbecue sauce, the beef meat is incredibly tender and juicy, rich in tangy sweet savoury meaty flavour. So good I went back and got more. Served with a trio of sauces on the side, sharp sour yellow mustard, tangy sweet hickory barbecue, and earthy red wine reduction. Highly recommended!

The Crackling Pork Roast (SGD $38.90, Takeaway Only) features a large slab of fatty pork belly, braised and roasted, resulting in tender, juicy pork belly meat. Topped with a satisfiyingly crisp, crunchy skin, the pork belly is so moist and smooth, rich in savoury with a hint of salty flavour. I feel it's above average, comparable to most decent Cantonese roast stalls in quality, and well worth ordering.

The Stuffed Roast Chicken (SGD $32.90, Takeaway Only) was alright, with a stuffing of rosemary herb, onions, celery, and carrots. It has a nice, tender, moist texture even after roasting, though I find the chicken meat to be rather flat in taste. It's not bad, but not great either.

The Morganfield's Christmas Feast Platter 2016 (SGD $149.90) feeds 2 - 5 people, and is a platter suitable for a celebratory feast! This features a half slab each of Hazelnut Sticky Bones and Cranberry Sticky Bones, along with 600g of Cracking Pork Roast, 200g of Gammon Ham, and a Sausages Trio. The sides of fresh Garden Salad, warm Corn Bread, sweet Roasted Pumpkin, smoky Mexican Grilled Corn, crunchy Roasted Cauliflower, and tasty Roasted Potatoes are executed decently, complimenting the meal.

The Chocolate Log Cake was a real surprise... real good! A rich, luscious thick coating of creamy chocolate frosting coats a soft, fluffy, moist chocolate cake within. Cuts so smoothly through, each bite is lovely and delicious. Not overly sweet, which pleased many of us. Highly recommended!

I've had several pleasant dining experiences at Morganfield's thus far, and with the launch of their new Christmas menu 2016, they've created even more reason for repeat diners to pay a visit. Overall, their ambience remains casual and inviting, the service friendly and efficient, while the food is consistently above average in both taste and execution.
