Feel conflicted about Starker Bistro. On one hand, it looks like a great place to chill and relax, with a few good beers. On the other, the poor and inconsistent quality of food, along with the high prices, make Starker Bistro poor value for money. A must avoid type of place.

Ambience at Starker Bistro is beautiful, and is the best thing here. The tightly packed area is beautifully decorated with faux and natural greenery, and glass walls allow for ample natural light. Sturdy wooden benches and high chairs line the faux cobblestone floor. The furnishings are fairly small, which is why you'll also see side tables (designed like a high chair) around. Their outlets also either screen sporting matches or host live band performances.

Service at Starker Bistro is above average. Staff are friendly and helpful, and keep good track of orders for large groups. They don't display much knowledge on the menu, but are helpful and proactive. For example, their house beer is best drunk at 3 degrees celsius, so staff will offer to change your current beer glass into a new cold frosted glass, when you're mid-way through a beer. However, order fulfilment is slow.

Food at Starker Bistro is a mish-mash of North American and European influences, paired with their house German beer. I have little good to say of this; the quality of dishes is poor, the execution weak and inconsistent. They use frozen ingredients in several dishes, resulting in below average taste. Portions are medium large for individuals. However, prices are comparable to other bistros, making Starker Bistro poor value for money. Avoid if possible.

The Beer Starker Charcoal (SGD $16.90) is brewed with selected noble hops, crystal malts, and dark roasted malts. It has a deep, dark charcoal black colour, with aromas and tastes of roasted coffee, malt, roasted barley, and wheat. The body is full, rounded, and smooth, with a distinct medium sweet bitter flavour, and a lingering finish.

The Beer Starker Lychee (SGD $16.90) is brewed with Belgium lychee. It has a bright, golden straw colour, with aromas and tastes of lychee, wheat, corn, and white musk. The body is mellow, crisp, and smooth, with a distinct medium fruity sweet grainy flavour, and a short finish.

The Cheesy Lava Schnitzel (SGD $21.80) was disappointing because for a price of SGD $25 (after adding tax and service charge), I expect fresh chicken, not the frozen, bland, dry, and tasteless chunk they use. At least it's boneless, and the crisp golden crumb batter has a lovely buttermilk flavour. It has gooey cheese oozing out, but this seems more like a corden bleu than a schnitzel. Served with crisp shoestring fries, a decent house mesclun salad, and a tasty Starker Beer sauce on the side. Terrible and unsatisfiying overall.

The Sausages On The Grill (SGD $20.80) feature a mix of 4 types of sausages; chicken, veal (beef), spicy pork with herbs, and chicken cocktail. These are decent enough, with juicy snappy casings, however, they were slightly dry in texture. The side of sauerkraut is disappointing, instead of being bright, juicy, and crunchy, this was limp, dry, and flat. Skip this.
