Established in April 2016, Poppy Pops still remains a largely hidden find. This brunch and dessert cafe is situated on the 6th floor of JEM shopping mall, and can only be accessed by the escalators on the 5th floor food court. Poppy Pops offers a novel ice cream popsicle customisation, with a range of delicious flavours to pair with a variety of toppings.

Ambience at Poppy Pops benefits from its rooftop vantage point. Surrounded by some natural greenery and lots of natural light, the glass walls of the cafe allow a view of the surrounding malls. Within, the eclectic furniture is a mix of high wooden benches, comfortable cushioned lounge chairs, and regular wooden and metal dining tables. The display of popsicles and toppings is bright, colourful, and attractive. The background music alternates between English, Chinese Mandarin, and Malay songs. Suitable for lingering meals.

Service at Poppy Pops is partially self-service. Ordering and payment is over the counter, where you can customise your popsicle, but staff will serve it to your table. I note staff display good product knowledge, and can offer recommendations for the undecided. They also clear away and clean empty / dirty tables quickly when diners leave. Because most dishes are made to order, there is usually a short waiting time of about 10 minutes.

Food at Poppy Pops is Modern Singaporean, with a small and focused brunch menu of light bites, sandwiches, and pasta. However, the highlight is their dessert popsicles. These house-made ice cream popsicles are vibrant in colour, and you can choose to dress them in 1 topping and 1 coating; with a decent range of various options. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are slightly cheaper than elsewhere, budget about SGD $19 per person for a meal here.

Poppy Kiwi Lime Lemonade (SGD $6)

The Mentaiko Fries (SGD $12) are perfect for sharing. Crisp thin shoestring fries, piled high in a bowl, are generously coated with salty savoury spicy mentaiko / pollock fish roe sauce, garnished with crunchy spring onions. Big bold flavours in each bite, yet it's light enough that it doesn't overwhelm. Good!

The French Toast (SGD $17) is a light breakfast / brunch. Features a slice of thick toast, with a fluffy soft texture, pan-grilled with butter till evenly brown on all sides. Sliced into cubes, it's plated with fluffy whipped white chocolate, juicy strawberries and blueberries, crunchy chopped almonds, and thick maple syrup. Lovely fruity creamy earthy sweet floral flavours here. Good!

Ordered a customised Honey Lychee Yoghurt Popsicle, Dark Chocolate Half, Fruity Pebbles, Waffle (SGD $10.80). The honey lychee yoghurt popsicle has a creamy smooth texture, with a rich fruity sweet milky flavour. The dark chocolate half coating lent a deep chocolatey sweet flavour and a nice crunch to texture, while the fruity pebbles topping lent a colourful vibrant look, a cereal grainy sweet flavour, and a crisp texture. The waffle bordered between dry and moist, with a crisp spongy texture. Dressed with a little chocolate sauce, it had a bready chocolatey sweet smoky flavour. Good!

The roasted strawberry popsicle has a creamy grainy texture, with a rich fruity sweet strawberry flavour. The white chocolate half coating lent a bright chocolatey milky sweet flavour and a nice crunch to texture, while the almond bits topping lent a jagged look, a slight crunch to texture, and a nutty earthy sweet flavour. Good!

The Thai green milk tea popsicle has a creamy smooth texture, with a bold milky herbal sweet flavour. The milk chocolate half coating lent a decent chocolatey milky sweet flavour and a nice crunch to texture, while the grated coconut topping lent a powdery look, a chewy grainy texture, and a floral earthy sweet flavour. Good!
