A casual Australasian eatery founded in October 2009 by Jenny Pang, Lots Gourmet has since moved several times, settling into their current location in July 2018. Despite their out-of-the-way location, Lots Gourmet has gained a loyal following over the years, due in part to their hearty, delicious, and affordable Australian fare.

Ambience at Lots Gourmet is casual and relaxed, yet still retains a touch of class. Helped in part by the locale with lots of natural greenery and a restored colonial building, the place has ample natural lighting during the day, with soft, warm mood lighting at night. The sturdy wooden tables and checkered black and white rattan chairs are contrasted by vibrant teal walls and gold coloured booth seats. Very nice.

Service at Lots Gourmet is friendly and personalised, with a good dose of attentiveness. Staff are polite and courteous, patiently taking orders, and come around regularly to check on the dining experience. They display decent product knowledge, and are efficient are clearing up and resetting tables when diners leave. However, it's difficult to attract their attention during peak periods.

Food at Lots Gourmet is focused on Australian cuisine and Modern Singaporean fusion cuisine. The menu has a good range of options, and dishes are generally well executed and tasty. Portions range from medium to large, and are sized for individuals. Prices are slightly cheaper than most cafes, and are wallet-friendly enough. Budget about SGD $22 per person for a meal here.

The Latte (SGD $5) here is decent enough, with fragrant roasted coffee beans aroma, and a decent strength to the body. I like that it has a medium acidity, making this more easy to drink.

The Hot Chocolate (SGD $5) is done Australian style, being more milky than chocolatey. With a medium thin texture and milky sweet flavour, this was below average for me. Skip this.

A straightforward Soft Drink Ginger Ale (SGD $2.30), with its lively body and herbal sweet spice flavour.

The Calamari (SGD $13.50) features bouncy tender moist chunks of fresh squid, coated in a thin but crisp batter, seasoned with salt, black pepper, and paprika. This gives it a delicate savoury sweet salty spice flavour. Served with a side of rich, creamy aioli. Reminds me of classic Australian Salt And Pepper Squid.

The Smoked Corn & Cheddar Chowder (SGD $24 Set Meal) was served as part of the festive set meal in December 2018. This rich chowder features a blend of smoked corn kernels and cheddar cheese, sprinkled with paprika and spring onions, resulting in a creamy, thick, nearly gloopy texture, much denser than usual. It has a lovely fragrant grainy sweet salty cheesy flavour. Served with crisp spongy baguette bread on the side, which has a delicate bready earthy sweet flavour, and soaks up the chowder beautifully.

With The Lots English Breakfast (SGD $20), you get a hearty Scrambled Eggs Breakfast / Full English Breakfast. It features soft scrambled eggs, crisp streaky bacon, snappy pork sausage, juicy cherry tomatoes, tender brown button mushrooms, crunchy potato hashbrown, and fluffy orange brioche toast bread served with butter. Love the combination of bold flavours, earthy savoury salty sweet eggy bready. Each component was well executed, but the trade-off is the slightly longer than usual waiting time of 15 minutes for this dish to be prepared. Good!

With The Lots Omelette (SGD $17), you get a hearty plate suitable for an indulgent breakfast. Think of it like a semi-deconstructed version of an egg omelette, featuring a large, soft egg omelette, tender prosciutto crudo / dry-cured parma ham, crunchy wild rocket leaves / arugula, creamy burrata cheese, and crisp ciabatta toast bread served with butter. You get the combination of delicate flavours, eggy earthy sweet savoury salty bitter bready. Each component was well executed, but the quality of the burrata cheese is not comparable to other high quality restaurants elsewhere, though it's decent enough. Good!

The Smoked Salmon & Rosti (SGD $21) is a decent breakfast if I don't feel like cooking at home. This features crisp fluffy potato rosti, with a savoury potato flavour, as the base. Topped with a generous portion of moist savoury salty smoked salmon fish fillets, soft crunchy vegetal herbal pea shoots, creamy sharp horseradish cream, a tender vegetal earthy half avocado, bright globules of briny salty salmon roe, and a perfect poached egg with a runny center. Each component was well executed, but the dish was a little too oily.

Seeing that we were actually in a clubhouse, I felt it appropriate to order the Club Sandwich (SGD $17). Unlike traditional versions, they've replaced the white bread with foccacia bread instead, which has a spongy soft texture, and a light bready sweet flavour. Garnished with crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, grilled chicken fillet, smoky bacon, and a fried egg. The combination of ingredients lend a layered savoury salty sweet smoky flavour. Served with a side of fresh crisp vegetal sweet mesclun salad, and medium cut chips that have good potato flavour. A decently tasty, filling dish.

The Lots Beef Burger (SGD $19) features 2 fluffy soft burger buns, stacked with juicy tomato, crunchy white onions, fresh lettuce, sweet pickle relish, sharp yellow mustard, creamy mayonnaise, a slice of cheddar cheese, and a thick, juicy minced beef patty, done to a perfect medium. Bite in, and you get the satisfiying burst of juice, followed by bold layers of savoury sweet tangy flavours. Served with fresh mesclun salad and medium-cut shoestring fries on the side. Highly satisfiying.

The Buttermilk Chicken Burger (SGD $24 Set Meal) was served as part of the festive set meal in December 2018. This features 2 fluffy soft burger buns, stacked with American Southern coleslaw (crunchy purple cabbage and carrots with mayonnaise), fresh lettuce, juicy grilled pineapple, creamy chili spiced mayonnaise, and a thick, juicy boneless chicken thigh, coated in a crisp buttermilk and spiced all-purpose flour batter. Bite into this huge, messy stack, and you get intense salty savoury spicy flavours. Served with a sharp sour juicy pickled gherkin, and delicious curly potato fries on the side. A little too heavy on the palate for me, I wasn't able to finish everything.

The Whisky Macallan Sherry Cask 12 Years (SGD $16) is a Scottish whisky, with a medium firm smooth body with a balanced smokiness and floral sherry notes, tastes of honey, marmalade, raisins, and dried apricots, with hints of wood and spice, and a delicate vanilla and ginger aroma. The finish is long and deep, with a solid dry oak note.
