After more than 8 years, I've finally upgraded to the Gillette Fusion 5 ProShield Chill razor. Launched in December 2015, the Gillette Fusion 5 ProShield Chill razor builds on the shaving technology of before. Instead of changing how men shave, the improvements in the Gillette Fusion 5 ProShield Chill razor seeks to improve the grooming experience for men.

The Gillette Fusion 5 ProShield Chill razor comes equipped with the now ubiquitous anti-friction, 5 multi-blade cartridge. The science behind the 5 angled blades is 'hysteresis', where each of the 5 blades is positioned fractionally closer to the skin. This creates better distribution of your hand pressure, minimising the risk of cuts and nicks, as well as cutting facial hair cleaner and closer to the skin on each shave. A micro-comb guides fine hairs to the blades on each stroke, while a blade stability bar maintains optimal blade spacing for comfort.




Flip the Gillette Fusion 5 ProShield Chill razor over, and you'll see the precision trimmer on the back of the cartridge. This provides accuracy in trimming and styling hair in difficult-to-reach areas. The blade is precisely engineered and housed in an anti-clogging rinse slot.




The FlexBall Technology is a Gillette trademarked pivot, located between the handle of the razor and the blade cartridge. This pivot allows the razor to move and adjust according to facial contours, providing constant contact to get virtually every facial hair. A light weight yet ergonomic handle grip offers precise control.




The latest feature is the lubrication bar, in addition to the lubrication strips positioned before and after the blades, to shield skin from irritation while shaving. The cooling technology lends a refreshing sensation during shaving, although Gillette has not stated exactly how this works.




Each cartridge refill is designed to last up to 1 month. Durability of the handle is long, between 1 - 5 years depending on usage. Price of the Gillette Fusion 5 ProShield Chill razor is more expensive than other razors though, budget about SGD $18 per razor, and SGD $26 per box of 4 cartridge refills.
