Originating from Yuexiu, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, where it was established in 1958, Yin Ji Changfen 银记肠粉 opened in Singapore in January 2018, within the Far East Square covered shopping arcade. Often called simply Yin Ji, they are known for their fast, casual comfort food, particularly their award-winning changfen / chee cheong fun / steamed rice rolls.
Ambience at Yin Ji is casual functional. The interior is neatly lined with decently comfortable wooden booths, with warm lighting casting a soft glow. The exterior is much more appealing, with high tables topped with vibrant shades of green and blue, surrounded by perching stools where you can people watch and enjoy the breeze.
Service at Yin Ji is efficient but transactional. Staff interaction is limited to ordering over the counter, and as a result, not much menu knowledge is displayed. Thankfully, the menu is fairly clear, with good pictures of dishes. Staff take awhile to clean up when diners leave, but order fulfillment is usually quick.
Food at Yin Ji is focused on Chinese Cantonese cuisine, particularly changfen / chee cheong fun / steamed rice rolls. With a wide variety of filling options, the humble but versatile dish is elevated here. Congee is the other star attraction. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are wallet-friendly for everyday dining, budget about SGD $10 per person.

Loved the Salted Pepper Chicken Chop (SGD $5) here. The large pieces of chunky chicken chop are tender and juicy, without being oily, and the seasoning of salt, Chinese 5-spice, white pepper, and sour plum powder combine with the natural flavours of the chicken meat, resulting in a yummy savoury spice salty sour sweet flavour. Great choice on its own, or to accompany other dishes as part of a meal. Highly recommended!

The Mala Spicy Fragrant Beef La Mian Noodles (SGD $7.80) was slightly disappointing, largely because of its small portion size. Taste is pretty good though, with the soft chewy hand pulled la mian noodles being grainy sweet in flavour, and the chunks of tender marinated beef having bold meaty savoury salty herbal flavour. The Sichuan / Szechuan mala peppercorn and chili oil gravy keeps things lively and interesting with a bold spicy savoury kick. Just wish the serving portion was larger. Could be improved.

The Century Egg & Pork Congee (SGD $6.50) features a properly thick and gloopy congee, with a grainy sweet flavour. They're generous with the garnishes, which includes tender pork slices, bouncy century egg, soft egg omelette strips, crunchy raosted peanuts, and crisp spring onions. Combines for a lovely sweet savoury eggy nutty salty flavour. Good!
