Established since November 2012, Xi Men Jie Tastes Of Taiwan is a fast-casual kiosk eatery that specialises in Taiwanese street snacks. Where they once had multiple outlets across Singapore, today, only their most frequented stores still remain. Xi Men Jie Tastes Of Taiwan has a fairly extensive menu, and they still attract a queue.
Ambience at Xi Men Jie Tastes Of Taiwan is modern casual. The brightly lit place is neatly lined with modern furnishings and booth seats, decorated with paintings of Taiwan. Decently comfortable for a quick meal, but certainly not for lingering.
Service at Xi Men Jie Tastes Of Taiwan is completely self-service, with ordering, payment, and collection over the counter. There isn't much display of product knowledge, as the menu is straightforward. Staff have little interest in prolonged interactions.
Food at Xi Men Jie Tastes Of Taiwan is Taiwanese cuisine, with a focus on street snacks. Takeaway is more common. Quality is slightly above average, but nothing worth shouting about. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are reasonable, budget about SGD $9 per person.

A decent, straightforward Boba Milk Tea (SGD $3.20), although the sugar level is pre-determined. The bubble milk tea is thin and light, with a balanced milky earthy sweet flavour. The boba tapioca pearls are soft and gelatinous chewy in texture, with a light earthy sweet note. Worth ordering!

The Calamansi Juice With Sour Plum (SGD $2.70) is properly refreshing, with a zesty sour sweet tangy flavour. Can taste the distinct layers of the calamansi juice and sour plum infusion, yum. Good!

The Fried Chicken Cutlet (SGD $6) features a large fried chicken cutlet, with a crisp battered crust. The chicken meat is medium thin with a light chew, and borders between moist and dry; would have liked it more juicy. The taste profile from the combination of 5-spice powder, sour plum powder, salt, and chili powder is lovely, lending bright sour sweet salty savoury spice flavour. I like that it's not overly greasy. Worth ordering!

The Sweet Potato Fries (SGD $5) feature long, chunky strips of sweet potato, with a crisp exterior and fluffy moist interior. Dusted with a generous amount of sour plum powder, these have bright sour sweet vegetal earthy flavour, whetting the appetite for more. Good!

The Deep-Fried Mushrooms (SGD $6) feature large, thick cut, battered shiitake mushrooms, with a crisp exterior and juicy tender interior. Dusted with a little chili powder, the mushrooms have robust vegetal earthy sweet savoury spice flavour. So delicious when served hot and fresh. Good!

Felt the Oyster Mee Sua (SGD $6) was good. The medium thick soup / broth holds deep savoury sweet flavour, and the silky thin mee sua / rice vermicelli noodles picks it up so well. A generous portion of chewy shredded chicken with sweet savoury flavour lends good texture, while fresh coriander lends a sharp vegetal bitter herbal note. The star is the trio of large plump juicy oysters, with beautiful briny salty sweet flavour. Completed with sambal belachan which lends a bold spicy savoury note. Each mouthful was so yummy and delightful. Good!

I enjoy the Crab Meat Mee Sua (SGD $6), probably more so than most. What I like is the tender moist thick strips of crab meat, with its sweet savoury flavour. Completed with sambal belachan which lends a bold spicy savoury note. Rather enjoyable. Good!

The Signature Braised Pork With Rice (SGD $6.50) or Lu Rou Fan has a base of fluffy moist steamed white rice, over which is spooned a generous portion of tender chewy braised pork loin and pork belly, crunchy pickled mustard greens, and a braised egg. The soy braising sauce lends robust meaty salty savoury herbal flavour to the dish, while the sharp vegetal sour sweet flavour and crunchy texture of the pickled mustard greens lends a good contrast. I like that it's not overly oily or fatty. Love how this bowl all comes together. Highly recommended!
