Introduction
Located about 40 minutes drive away from the Changi international airport in Singapore, Lloyd's Inn is an inn (yes, it's right there in the name). Comparable perhaps to a small boutique 3-star hotel, Lloyd's Inn boasts just 35 rooms, with its main facility being a dipping pool. The appeal of Lloyd's Inn lies in its tranquil minimalist zen ambience surrounded by nature, and its proximity to the nearby Orchard and River Valley areas of Singapore with ample dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
Ambience
Ambience at Lloyd's Inn is tranquil and relaxing. Surrounded by ample natural greenery and located in a quiet estate, the inn is flanked by high walls, with a raw industrial minimalist feel that blends urban and nature beautifully. Rooms are located along tight corridors that lead to inviting open communal spaces. The place is cool even during the heat of the day. The lobby is inviting, and also boasts a small gift shop with unique curated items. I absolutely love the sense of zen here, making for a great place to retreat and recuperate.
Room
Rooms at Lloyd's Inn are the highlight, with pros and cons. I stayed at the Business Room, and the overall experience was great.
What I liked - the comfortable lounge sofa, the wide working desk with decent business chair, provision of sufficient toiletries, the comfortable queen bed, the daily housekeeping, the clean outdoor shower and bathroom, the small multi-purpose side table, and their unique pandan / screwpine leaf and lemongrass plant strategy to keep away unwanted pests (the place was bug-free even being close to nature, though I had a visit from a caterpillar).
What I didn't like - the poor cable television reception with frequent static, the poor soundproofing as you can clearly hear noises along the corridor (thankfully not from other rooms), the shallow in-room sink which made hand-washing challenging, and the small open wardrobe which gets in the way.
What I thought could be improved - a cushion for the sofa would have been nice, better shower curtains that could draw the full length of the bathroom and toilet, a business chair with arm-rests for added comfort, and maintenance for the door handles which were a little loose (though the locking mechanism was secure).
Food
Food at Lloyd's Inn is non-existent, though they provide a vending machine and a coffee dispenser on-site at the Outdoor Pantry. You can then enjoy purchased drinks at the Roof Terrace. Otherwise, the nearby Orchard and River Valley areas have plentiful dining options for all ranges of budget.
Service
Service at Lloyd's Inn is fantastic. The daily housekeeping is made more challenging by having to keep the outdoor spaces clean, no mean feat with all the ample greenery around. Staff work efficiently at cleaning rooms, though they sometimes miss out the small details (such as cleaning the sides of the staircase steps). The reception is polite and hardworking, and they make you feel welcome. I had a small maintenance issue as the towel rack in my room broke during cleaning, but they fixed it the very next day, great.
Facilities & Activities
The facilities and activities at Lloyd's Inn consist of several curated lounge spaces and a picturesque dipping pool. These are well-maintained and relatively clean, though the outdoor spaces do have the occasional fallen leaves, which the hardworking staff regularly keep clean. The dipping pool itself is great for a relaxing float / soak, though the size limits it to one party at a time, with a limit of 1 hour of usage per booking (but you can make several bookings). But it's great being surrounded by nature. Overall, I would return to Lloyd's Inn again, as I greatly enjoyed the relaxing ambience.
