Introduction
Located about 30 minutes drive away from the Changi international airport in Singapore, The Warehouse Hotel is a boutique 5-star hotel operated by The Lo & Behold Group, a hospitality group reowned for creating timeless and thought-provoking experiences for their guests. Part of the prestigious 'Design Hotels' portfolio, The Warehouse Hotel is a homage to the area's heritage and culture, yet exudes an intimate, sophisticated, and elegant charm that leaves an impression.
Ambience
Ambience at The Warehouse Hotel manages to feel classy and raw all at once. The beautifully restored former warehouse pays tribute to its history using raw industrial touches within the lobby, from the sleek and sturdy black metal pillars and ceiling frames, the warm hanging light bulbs at varying heights, the exposed red brick front wall, the cube-shaped side wall panels, and the overhead pulley wheels repurposed as decor.
This is contrasted by touches of classy modern luxury, from the patterned marble floors, the leather-clad plush sofas and lounge chairs in the lobby lounge, the long bar counter in the lobby bar backed by rows of bottles, and the touches of gold and black trinkets around the reception area.
Room
Rooms at The Warehouse Hotel are spacious, clean, comfortable, and tranquil. I feel like it's almost a meditative sanctuary to retreat, recover, and restore oneself. With just 37 rooms, the place is cozy, and they can accord guests more attention.
Stayed at the Warehouse Loft room, with a soaring ceiling framed by metallic beams, a skylight that allowed ample natural but soft diffused sunlight during the day, and warm lamps for intimacy at night. The wireless internet (specific to each room) was fast and stable, and the in-room Bang & Olufsen bluetooth speakers were reliable. The open wardrobe frame is sufficiently large and sturdy.
The king size bed was large and comfortable, as was the easy lounge chair, and sturdy working desk with cushioned chair. The mini bar was fully stocked with all manner of locally-curated drinks and snacks (though all of it is chargeable beyond complimentary bottled water, artisanal tea bags, and drip coffee sachets). The bathroom offers a good range of amenities, with eco-friendly toiletries by New Zealand bodycare company, Ashley & Co. Note that the bathroom is semi-private with large automated roller blinds covering the glass door.
I had only 2 less-than-stellar points throughout the entire staycation. The first was the smart cable TV lacked interesting options and I couldn't stream YouTube (although this didn't bother me much personally). The second was the shower (both rain and regular shower) which seemed to only have 2 settings - freezing or cold, I couldn't seem to coax lukewarm or hot water out of the shower, so I made do with cold showers throughout (more uncomfortable on days that it rained, less so on sunny days).
Food
Food at The Warehouse Hotel is provided by the in-house Po Restaurant, which offers Modern Singaporean classics; and by The Lobby Bar, which offers an extensive list of cocktails, craft beers, spirits, and fine wines, numbering around 120+ labels in total. This makes The Warehouse Hotel a good option for a dining destination of choice.
Named after the Chinese term of affection for the paternal grandmother (婆婆 / pó po), at Po Restaurant, the menu reads like a modern yet nostalgic spin on Singaporean classics, a refined mod-sin experience. Dishes are elevated through the use of premium ingredients and time-honoured techniques, here you'll find dishes that are comforting and familiar, yet luxurious and bespoke in their way.
At The Lobby Bar and Lobby Lounge, the extensive list with over 120+ drink choices is no surprise considering they're operated by The Lo & Behold Group. But the highlight is surely their menu of 10 house-curated cocktails, designed to reflect the 3 distinct eras from the history of the warehouse - the 19th century spice trade and a bustling port, the early 20th century of forbidden distilleries and secret vice, and the late 20th century disco era of fun and excitement.
Service
Service at The Warehouse Hotel is excellent, as befits the reowned hospitality of The Lo & Behold Group. Staff accord guests personalised attention, demonstrate good product and service knowledge, are efficient at fulfilling requests, and make the effort to ensure guests feel welcome and valued. All this, delivered with a smile and professional demeanor, discreet and polite.
Examples include the proactive observation and attentiveness for special occasions, the detailed food and beverage recommendations along with checking for feedback, and the swift efficiency of housekeeping during daily cleaning. Was very pleased with the quality of service received.
Facilities & Activities
The facilities and activities at The Warehouse Hotel is limited when compared to a regular hotel. For example, they lack a laundry and dry-cleaning service, and there isn't any gymnasium or fitness centre (though they do have good running tracks around the area). There's 1 function room (The Den) which can accomodate up to 20 people for private functions or events, and also doubles as a small art gallery with pieces for sale.
Beyond business travelers, The Warehouse Hotel is targeted at couples without children; they offer a cheeky 'mini bar of vice' on a discreet menu; little wonder their rooms have good sound-proofing. The other draw for The Warehouse Hotel is location, being within walking distance to the Robertson Quay and Clarke Quay areas for dining and entertainment, as well as the Great World City shopping mall.
Overall, I enjoyed my staycation experience at The Warehouse Hotel, and would love to return again in future.
