Description:
The Egg Omelette is a Singaporean English dish that consists of between 2 to 4 whisked eggs, stuffed with a variety of ingredients then folded, served with 1 or 2 simple side dishes to accompany. The most common Western style varieties of Egg Omelette in Singapore tend to originate from British English, American, Australian, Italian, or Spanish cuisine. Also known as Torta, Omelet, Stuffed Omelette, or Frittata, the Egg Omelette dish is usually priced around SGD $11 to $28 per serving. It's an uncommon dish in cafes, usually eaten during breakfast, brunch, or part of an all-day menu.


The making of an Egg Omelette usually involves whisking between 2 to 4 eggs, typically chicken eggs, then frying it in a pan without stirring, seasoning with salt and black pepper or white pepper. Some stalls also whisk in cream. Anywhere between 1 to 5 ingredients are folded into the beaten eggs, with an average of 2 or 3 ingredients being the norm. The most common ingredients used to stuff the Egg Omelette includes button mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, baby spinach, white onions, tomatoes, chives, bell peppers / capsicum, pork ham, chicken ham, turkey ham, cheddar cheese, gruyère cheese, or parmesan cheese.

The Egg Omelette should be fluffy soft and moist, with the ingredients stuffed within lending a combined tender gooey crunchy texture, carrying eggy sweet savoury salty cheesy peppery spice flavour. The versions that include cheese are usually very filling. An Egg Omelette is typically served with 1 or 2 side dishes, which may include a mesclun salad, a garden salad, coleslaw, potato chips or fries, toasted white bread, toasted wholemeal bread, brioche bread, sourdough bread, sliced fresh vegetables (cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, or lettuce), streaky pork bacon, or pork sausages; some stalls may offer a choice of side dishes.

A healthier version of Egg Omelette is made using only the egg white, which eliminates fat and cholesterol by discarding the egg yolk. There's also an open-face variety of Egg Omelette, where instead of being stuffed and folded within, the ingredients are added on top as a garnish. As it requires some skill to make well, yet isn't exactly a premium dish, it is uncommon to find Egg Omelette being sold anywhere, except in mid-range cafes or restaurants that boast a decent chef.

Since February 2013, this neighbourhood cafe has been serving fresh and tasty bakes, though they've had to consolidate in recent years.

Quality is typically good. Their rendition allows you to select ingredients to stuff within the omelette, I got tender ham, crisp spinach, and juicy button mushrooms.

Together with the fluffy egg, this has lovely vegetal meaty eggy savoury sweet flavours.

Paired with fresh crisp salad (lettuce, purple cabbage, cherry tomatoes) dressed with balsamic vinegar with vegetal sweet sour flavour, and crisp toasted wholemeal bread with grainy bready sweet notes.

This Australian gastrobar & cafe is a renowned dining destination, having operated since October 2007.

Large hearty portions, friendly service, and a casual rustic ambience, draws diners all throughout the day, morning till night.

Their rendition allows selection of ingredients, I opted for tender button mushrooms, crisp spinach, and pliant ham. Together with the soft egg, this has fresh vegetal meaty eggy savoury sweet peppery spice flavour.

Served with crisp toasted white bread and butter, whose bready sweet buttery notes round off well.

Since July 1997, this artisanal quick-service cafe chain continues to serve wholesome and healthy dishes and desserts, true to their values of "Eat Well, Be Well".

Made with fresh ingredients, their garden rendition has fluffy egg pocket filled with tender button mushrooms, juicy cherry tomatoes, soft caramelised white onion, and crunchy bell peppers / capsicum. Has bright vegetal earthy eggy sweet flavours.

On the side is snappy grilled pork sausages with robust smoky meaty salty savoury spice flavour. Also crisp toasted sourdough bread with smoky bready sour sweet flavour.

This legacy chain, established by brothers Han Choon Fook and Han Choon Kuang in 1980, has long maintained a reputation for tasty fast-casual meals at affordable prices.

Available as part of their all-day breakfast menu, their rendition takes after the classic British English Chinese Hainanese style.

With crisp fluffy egg folded with springy button mushrooms and tender ham, this carries lovely meaty eggy savoury salty earthy sweet flavour.

Served with fresh crunchy juicy coleslaw, lettuce, cucumber, and tomato, all with vegetal sweet flavour. Also crisp fluffy thick-cut shoestring potato fries, having starchy salty savoury flavour, hot and nice.

Since opening in July 2011, this stall has been attracting folks with their gourmet sandwiches, freshly roasted coffee, and rustic yet relaxed vibe.

The egg omelette itself is thick and fluffy on the exterior, with a juicy semi-runny interior, almost like a pocket filled with a generous amount of ingredients. Has bold eggy sweet savoury salty flavour.

The fillings of tender sauteed button mushrooms and soft caramelised white onions have a vegetal earthy sweet flavour, complemented by the gooey cheddar cheese with cheesy salty flavour.

Served over a crisp rustic sourdough bread, which crunches beautifully to release its natural bready sour sweet fragrance.

Founded in April 2012, SPRMRKT (pronounced 'Supermarket') is a speciality concept store, offering casual gourmet dining with the twist of an art gallery amid a curated shop.

The egg omelette is enhanced with cream, resulting in an eggy sweet milky flavour, with a soft wobbly fluffy texture.

Within is stuffed a generous amount of tender gammon ham and juicy wild button mushrooms, a combination of vegetal meaty earthy savoury salty flavour.

The gooey strands of cheese with cheesy salty notes, and fresh coriander with vegetal herbal flavour, complete this hefty and filling dish.

Since it arrived in Singapore in 1979, this chain restaurant has been a go-to place for decadent ice cream sundaes, tasty American fare, and celebrations of life milestones with family or friends.

Their rendition has fluffy egg omelette enveloping tender chicken ham and juicy button mushrooms, carrying meaty eggy earthy savoury sweet flavours.

Since June 2000, this quiet cafe has been delighting those in the know - serving as an "alternate living room", suitable for reading, meetings, gaming, grazing, or catching up with family or friends.

As many have claimed; there is a lot to like about this place. Ambience is cozy, classy, and comfortable. Service is friendly, professional, and caring. Food is well-executed, delicious, and reasonably priced.

Here, 3 free-range eggs were folded with my choice of ham and tomato. The egg omelette is fluffy and tender and juicy, with pleasant eggy savoury salty sweet flavour.

Served with crisp toasted buttered white bread with smoky bready buttery savoury sweet flavour, and juicy grilled cherry tomatoes which are nicely smoky vegetal sweet in taste.

Loved the crisp potato rosti, which held starchy salty savoury sweet flavour, yum.

This brand is a pioneer of the all-day breakfast concept in Singapore, ever since owner-couple Guy Wachs and Stephanie Hancock opened it in November 2009.

Renowned for their luxurious egg-focused dishes inspired by global flavours; their delicious food, friendly service, and beautiful ambience, have gained them multiple awards over the last decade.

This Corsican inspired rendition has thick fluffy soft eggs, folded with crumbly goat cheese and feta cheese, crisp shredded basil leaves, and rich lavender honey. Has lovely eggy herbal sweet savoury cheesy milky floral flavour.

On the side is juicy cherry tomatoes with vegetal sweet notes, and crunchy toasted sourdough bread with smoky bready sour sweet flavour.

Added crispy strips of candied streaky pork bacon, addictive with robust smoky meaty salty sweet floral flavour.

It's also among the more expensive options around, but well worth the indulgence.
