Since they opened in August 2014, Lad & Dad has grown from a humble hawker stall to a standalone gastropub, expanding their menu to offer classic pub grub. Known for their consistent quality and hearty portions, Lad & Dad still represents a chill place for good beers and food.
Ambience at Lad & Dad is casual, the warmly lit open space neatly lined with functional wooden benches. Love the quirky artwork on the walls, which lends vibrant character. Being open, the place can get warm and humid due at times; and the covered shelter only protects against light rain, less so for heavy downpours.
Service at Lad & Dad is friendly, with staff engaging guests well. They display good product knowledge, offering recommendations, and introducing dishes as they serve. I note staff clean up quickly when diners leave. Staff generally ensure diners are happy, and owner Keith Koh may also engage diners if he's present.
Food at Lad & Dad is classic British English cuisine, focused on pub grub. Ingredients are fresh, and quality is consistently delicious. The menu is small but focused, drawing regulars back for more. Portions are large for individuals. Prices are relatively cheaper than other gastropubs, budget about SGD $38 per person.

Among the most famous beers worldwide, this has a deep, dark black brown colour, with a creamy white foam head. The aroma and taste is similar, consisting of smoked malts, roasted coffee beans, faint caramel, and barley. The body is rich, velvety smooth, almost creamy, with a bitter sweet grainy flavour.

The Whisky Glenfiddich 15 Years Single Malt (SGD $20) is aged with fine Spanish oloroso wood and American oak wood, resulting in a rich golden gleam, with intriguingly robust fruity woody sweet spice flavour. Has a smooth semi-thick warming body, tastes of baked granny smith apple, cinnamon, dried apricot, and oak wood, with a distinguished finish.

The Scotch Egg (SGD $12) is a delicious appetizer. Over a bed of crunchy purple cabbage, is a large wobbly soft whole pickled egg, enveloped with tender minced pork sausage meat, and coated in a crisp golden-brown panko breadcrumb crust. Bite in, and you're rewarded with lovely meaty savoury salty eggy sweet bready flavours. Rather addictive, we kept reaching for more. Highly recommended!

The traditional appetizer Pigs In A Blanket (SGD $14) features juicy snappy British English pork cocktail sausages, wrapped in crispy streaky smoked pork bacon, and glazed with thick maple syrup. A burst of smoky meaty salty savoury sweet honeyed flavour, a satisfying and decadent treat. Highly recommended!

The Onion Rings (SGD $8) appetizer features thin sliced white onions, coated in a crumb batter. Golden with a light snappy juicy crunch, the onion rings carry nice bready sweet earthy savoury flavour, yum. Good!

The Scampi And Chips (SGD $19) is a large, hearty, delicious meal. The big partially deshelled tiger prawns are coated in a crispy beer batter, yet the prawns within remain crunchy and bouncy, with light sweet savoury flavour. The thick cut potato chips are fluffy with a light crisp bite, releasing good starchy sweet salty flavour. The mushy peas have a grainy sticky texture, with good vegetal sweet earthy flavour, yum. Served alongside a creamy gherkin tartar sauce which holds milky herbal sweet flavour; I also added malt vinegar and sea salt crystals for a sour zesty salty kick. Highly recommended!

The Fish And Chips (SGD $19) features a large boneless tender flaky haddock fish fillet, coated in a crisp golden beer batter that isn't greasy. Clean-tasting and fresh, with savoury sweet flavour. Accompanied by chunky sticky mushy peas with vegetal sweet earthy grassy flavour, and fluffy crisp thick-cut potato chips with starchy salty savoury flavour. A lemon wedge on the side lends optional zesty tangy sour flavour. An excellent rendition overall. Highly recommended!

The Bangers & Mash (SGD $16) is a classic British English dish, with smooth chunky mashed potatoes that carry starchy buttery savoury sweet flavour, topped with a duo of juicy snappy fresh pork sausages that are perfectly grilled and carry robust meaty savoury salty spice smoky flavour. Completed with a hearty minced beef meat gravy infused with beer, lending a lovely grainy meaty salty savoury earthy spice flavour. Good!
