Rock & Ash is tucked away in a relatively secluded corner in the Basement of Marina Square, most patrons of Marina Square could easily miss this, unless they were on their way to the Esplanade MRT. Actually, it would be a bit more accurate to say that this area is almost part of the Esplanade Xchange.

In fact, many of their customers are walk-in... They walk pass the big signs and posters outside Rock & Ash, stop to stare at the delicious looking food on offer, and then walk in.

Food
Almost everyone goes for the fries here. Most tables will order at least 1 portion. Rock & Ash fries are straight cut, thick, and served hot. One of the better Fries around, definitely better than McDonald's. Tastier, and more value for money.

Tip: Even the Regular size is pretty big and can be shared. Don't even think about ordering the Large unless you plan to share.

The most popular dip is Spicy Cheese Sauce. Basically Nacho Cheese Sauce with Chili Padi. Really good kick, and pretty unique. Most tables will have this dip to go with their fries.

Other unique dips include Lemon Curd, which tastes like lemon cream, and Chocolate. Ok, Chocolate by itself is not unique, but eating it together with Fries is!

Tip: You can order extra dips, at $1 each. Even if you didn't order the Fries, you can still order the dips.

Also, try their Meat Balls and Dory Fish Fillet (Fish & Chips). Both are pretty good. I especially like the Coleslaw that comes with their Fish Fillet. Raisins have been added to the Coleslaw, thus giving it more texture, as well as added sweetness. The Fish Fillet can be a bit oily though.

The Potato Skins were a let-down for me. It was undercooked, making it slightly hard. Plus, I felt it was too oily.

Service
I think the service here is excellent. Food arrives within 3 - 5 minutes, and they ask for your name when you place orders.

Tables are cleared promptly after a customer leaves. Cutlery is supposed to be self-service, you're supposed to help yourself to it from the side table, but the staff will commonly serve you the cutlery anyway.

Rock & Ash staff might also ask for feedback after your meal. I found them to be relatively knowledgeable on preparation and ingredients for the dishes. They also provide little feedback forms at the cashier.
