Update Dec-2019: Founded in July 2012 by Dr. Jeffrey Goh, Morganfield's has grown to become one of the most respected establishments in Singapore for American style barbecue and pork ribs. Having grown internationally over the past 7 years, Morganfield's has consistently remained a safe bet for classic old-fashioned barbecued pork ribs and a good dining experience.
Ambience at Morganfield's has vastly improved over the earlier years. These days, the proper restaurant style atmosphere, with industrial metal and wooden furnishings set amongst a spacious area, flanked with rough brick walls, wooden finishings, and low warm decorative light bulbs, call to mind the feel of farm country and the great outdoors. Quirky tongue-in-cheek posters complete the decor. Most of their outlets offer both indoor and outdoor seating.
Service at Morganfield's now performs consistently to most restaurant standards. Staff are polite, quickly greeting and seating guests, and display passable product knowledge on the menu, able to answer basic questions. They clean up quickly and efficiently when diners leave. Catching their attention during peak periods still remains a challenge, but I realise they no longer upsell these days.
Food at Morganfield's remains focused on American style barbecue and rotisserie, primarily the wet / glazed versions common in Texas and Kansas. These days, they also offer a small section of Asian style barbecue to cater to the regional palate. They've managed to achieve more or less a consistent cooking approach that will appeal to the masses, with above average taste and quality. Portions remain large, and may be shared. Prices have risen slightly, but are still reasonable compared to other restaurants. Budget about SGD $38 per person for a meal here.

The 2019 Christmas Feast is available throughout December 2019. We ordered delivery for a fesetive event, and I'm glad the delivery was timely, and the quality of takeaway was passable, with food still being hot when it arrived. All orders require advance notice of at least 3 days, and can be placed here: https://morganfields.oddle.me/en_SG/.
The signature Hickory BBQ Pork Spare Ribs (SGD $30.90) feature a full slab of pork spare ribs, slow cooked over hickory wood, grilled and basted wet barbecue style with hickory barbecue sauce. Cut from the pork belly, this was meaty and juicy tender, with the pork meat coming easily off the bone. Infused with smoky sweet savoury flavour, this delicious pork ribs were gone too soon.

Among the better versions around, the Orange Marmalade Glazed Whole Gammon Ham ($179.90 Set) stands out because instead of honey, they've used oranges and orange marmalade to glaze the gammon ham instead. This lends a bright fruity sweet flavour that isn't cloying, complementing the natural salty savoury smoky notes of the ham, making it nicely pleasant to eat, even in large slices. Weighing 3kg before being cooked, this was a delight with its succulent tender juicy texture.

The Cranberry Salad ($179.90 Set) features a fresh mesclun salad (lettuce, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, chard, mizuna) with vegetal bitter earthy herbal sweet flavours, drizzled with bright fruity sweet tangy sour cranberry sauce.

The Sweet Potato Fries ($179.90 Set) have a soft tender texture inside, with a light crisp crunch outside. These medium thin sweet potato fries have a delicate earthy sweet flavour, and will appeal to most. Served with a creamy ranch sauce with milky sweet flavour.

Always love the Corn Bread ($179.90 Set) here, with its fluffy moist soft texture, and bright grainy sweet flavour. Almost similar to a corn muffin, the corn bread is delicious, pairing well with most dishes. Among the best versions around.

A straightfoward Grilled Corn ($179.90 Set), with bright grainy sweet flavour and a light juicy crunch. Was disappointed that one of the corn slices was below par in quality though.

The Mac & Cheese ($179.90 Set) has soft macaroni pasta tubes coated in a gooey thick cheddar cheese and cream sauce. This has lovely cheesy salty savoury flavour, and is rather filling. Has to be eaten quickly before it cools.

The Roasted Pumpkin (SGD $12.90) has a nice tender soft moist texture, with delicate earthy sweet smoky flavour. These roasted pumpkin slices are served with skin on, which is easily peeled off.

The Candied Bacon (SGD $9.90) is a delicious treat. These crisp slices of honey glazed bacon have a sticky crunch, with a lovely floral sweet salty savoury flavour that is rather addictive. You can't stop at only one piece!

Original Post, Dec-2012: Morganfield's is an American-inspired restaurant and bar. Befitting their American influence, Morganfield's serves rustic southern comfort food, as well as specializing in BBQ, specifically, BBQ pork ribs.
Food portions at Morganfield's are generally quite large, and small eaters should consider sharing. Their signature pork ribs, also called 'Sticky Bones', are wood smoked with Hickory wood, and is incredibly fragrant. The meat is very tender, and comes clean off the bone, a sign of 'low-and-slow' cooking.
Service at Morganfield's is either love-or-hate. On a positive note, staff are attentive, friendly and willing to engage in conversation. They will also accommodate specific dining requests. Food is served rather quickly even during peak periods.
However, staff are also encouraged to upsell, and will attempt to continually do so if you show any hesitation. They won't warn diners of the large American-sized portions unless asked. While I understand the need for upselling to increase revenue for the business, some customers may be turned off by this. Thus, for a positive dining experience at Morganfield's, my advice is to be firm and decisive in your order, and once decided, to stick to your decision.
The indoor ambience at Morganfield's is rather poor. Dim lighting isn't a very big issue, but this was my first experience dining in a stuffy restaurant. It was quite warm... In fact, the outdoor seating area was actually cooler than indoors. I'm not entirely sure if this was the restaurant's fault for poor air circulation, or simply a consequence of the energy-saving green concept of the Star Vista mall. But I'll opt to sit outside next time.
Update Nov-2015: After several repeat visits to Morganfield's across their outlets over the last 3 years, I'm glad to say they've improved. The Ambience at Morganfield's is now much cooler and less stuffy, making for a more comfortable dining experience. The Service quality has improved, they've moved away from up-selling, and are now more polite and courteous towards customers. Rather efficient as well, though there is still a short waiting time for order fulfillment. The Food quality has remained consistently good, and portion sizes remain large. Prices have stayed more or less the same these last 3 years, and the pork ribs are still among the better versions around. Glad they've done well!
The Sauteed Mushrooms (SGD $9.90) is one of the most popular appetizers on the menu. The mushrooms are sliced into thick strips, and sauteed with garlic butter, which lends incredible flavour. However, the Russet Potato Skins (SGD $9.90) weren't that good for me, as I felt the skin wasn't crisp enough. It seemed like just a baked potato, cut into slices, and sprinkled with bacon bits. Not that great.

The signature Hickory BBQ Spare Ribs (SGD $27.90 Half, $41.90 Full) is among the most popular dishes here, due to its fragrant aroma, generous meaty portions, tender and juicy meat that comes clean off the bone, and sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. While not the absolute best barbeque pork ribs I've had, it is still very good and worth trying.

Everything tastes better with bacon. Especially when you wrap a sausage-stuffed chicken thigh with it. The Chicken Roulade (SGD $23.90) is served with a tasty creamy mashed potato, and a savoury mustard sauce which pairs very well together. Unhealthy but quite addictive.

The Home-Made Apple Pie (SGD $13.90) also comes in a generous portion. I like that the crust is slightly crumbly, buttery and isn't too thick, and the apple filling is packed tightly, with very little air pockets. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, this is a classic American dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth. Sharing is recommended.

I loved the Pop Corn Pork (SGD $9.90)! Nicely crisp outside, but still substantial, meaty and juicy inside. Very good!

I like that they have Beer Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc (SGD $12 / $15.90) on tap! Not many places have this beer on tap, and it's much cheaper to drink this here!

The Chili Con Carne (SGD $3.90) is excellent. Meaty, juicy, and spicy all at once, the chunks of minced beef are tender, and I can taste the distinct flavour that the kidney beans and tomatoes add to the flavour. The chili spice makes you want to keep going back again and again! Good as a side dish on its own, or slathered over corn bread or fries!

The Corn Bread (SGD $3.90) is warm and fluffy, with chunks of corn spread throughout. Texture is similar to a sponge cake, but infused with the fragrant aroma of warm corn. Lovely, great as an appetizer or dessert!
Corn Bread (SGD $3.90) |
The Maker's Mark Chicken Wings (SGD $13.90) carries that distinctive sweet and sticky sauce, almost like molasses and honey. The meat is tender and juicy, but as it's served cold, is a surprise to my palate.

In comparision to the other ribs on the menu, the Maker's Mark BBQ Baby Back Ribs (SGD $19.90 Half, $32.90 Full) is tiny in portion size. But with that same tasty sweet, sticky, bourbon sauce, the flavour packs a punch. Infused deep into the meat, every mouthful of this fork tender pork ribs is tasty and yummy!

The Carnivore Platter (SGD $98.90) is a mammoth platter fit for 3 - 5 people. Packed with a choice of ribs, a choice of chicken, fries, salad, corn on the cob, 2 sausages, and corn bread... You'll walk away satisfied!
