Originally established in 2010 in Jakarta, Indonesia, First Love Patisserie opened its doors in Singapore in January 2013. First Love Patisserie is known for its Hokkaido style thousand layer cakes, also called mille crepe cakes, and regularly ranks among the best in Singapore for this dessert.

Ambience at First Love Patisserie is negligible, as they offer solely takeaway from their kiosks. There is absolutely no seating available. However, their cake display is bright and attractive, and the smell of baking cheese tarts is attractive from afar.

Service at First Love Patisserie is completely self-service, with ordering, payment, and collection over the counter. As with most takeaway kiosks, there is usually a queue. However, I must commend the staff for their excellent product knowledge, from cake flavours to handling to storage, they're able to provide sound advice.

Food at First Love Patisserie is all about fusion desserts, specifically, thousand layer cakes / mille crepe cakes, and baked cheese tarts. Influences for their desserts include American, French, and Japanese. Their thousand layer cakes / mille crepe cakes are available in a range of 8 flavours, contain no preservatives, and are 100% handmade. Portions are sized in regular or large, and are meant for sharing. Prices are comparable to most other high-end cakes, budget between SGD $58 - $69 per cake.

The key to serving thousand layer cakes / mille crepe cakes is the amount of time it takes to thaw - these dessert cakes should be taken out of the freezer or fridge 2 hours before consumption, and left to sit at room temperature. This results in a smooth, luscious texture to the cake.

The Mille Crepe Cake - French Vanilla (SGD $58 / $65) is made with layers of thin and chewy crepe, alternating with rich French vanilla cream. Delicate floral sweet flavour, silky creamy textures, and it feels light on the palate. Highly recommended!

The Mille Crepe Cake - Belgian Chocolate (SGD $62 / $69) is made with layers of thin and chewy crepe, alternating with decadent Belgian pure couverture chocolate and cream. Soothing robust sweet flavours, sticky creamy textures, and it feels comforting on the palate. Highly recommended!
