The Jeju Special Administrative Province in South Korea / Republic Of Korea is known for its black pork, and many shops here in Jeju & Seogwipo specialise in barbecued pork. Located near Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, in the Songsan-Dong area, Tae Sung Heuk Don is a family-run casual restaurant, offering the signature black pork in its Korean barbecue.

Ambience at Tae Sung Heuk Don feels welcoming. The brightly lit signage catches attention from the road, and the open concept area feels spacious. Barbecue grills are built into sturdy tables, neatly arrayed in the small floor space. The colour hues of wood and black mesh well with the warm spot lights, and the chairs are relatively comfortable. Thanks to the open concept, ventilation is good, there is barely any cooking odour lingering in the air.

Service at Tae Sung Heuk Don is excellent, feels like a homely meal. Staff can converse in basic English, and the menu has helpful English descriptions, perhaps because of their close proximity to a popular tourist attraction. Guests are warmly greeted and quickly ushered to seats. I also note that staff are efficient at clearing away empty / dirty tables. The best part; staff also assisted in preparing and cooking the barbecue pork at our table!

Food at Tae Sung Heuk Don is all about Korean barbecue pork. Different, varied cuts of pork. They take pride in the quality of the meat - fresh and sourced from local farms, and more significantly, the pork is not marinated. This allows diners to experience the natural flavours of the black pork. The menu also includes other simple, home style Korean dishes. Portions are styled for communal dining, a group of at least 3 people or more is recommended. Prices are very affordable, budget about KRW ₩11500 / SGD $14 per person for a meal here.
