As one of the few ice-cream parlors around in the 80s, Swensen's today is still going strong despite the increasing competition. I used to visit as a kid, mainly for the Sticky Chewy Chocolate sundae, which I love!

I used to be rewarded with it as a treat for doing well in exams haha. It used to come in a wine-glass shaped serving-glass, but today, it comes in a tall serving glass.

While Swensen's didn't go the path of fancy custom-made ice-cream, they are still maintaining their solid base of ice-cream flavors which have stood the test of time. From Yam to Durian and Chendol, most of us will find comfort knowing that at Swensen's, some things haven't changed.

What has changed however, has changed for the better, and this includes Swensen's service, and food quality. They now offer more options for mains, like salads, and more side dishes as well.

Update Aug-2018: Have been visiting Swensen's / Earle Swensen's occasionally over the last 7 years. Am glad to say they encourage nostalgia; the ambience remains very much the same, with American style diner booths in colours of red, white, and wood, with sturdy wooden finishing, and warm lighting. Colourful stained glass panels of ice cream adorn the place. The service is old-school as well, with staff being polite and friendly, doing their best to attend to customers, and having decent product knowledge and patience. The food is largely American cuisine, with a mix of Singaporean dishes as well. Being halal certified, Swensen's / Earle Swensen's makes a great place for gatherings with friends, and their desserts / ice cream, main courses, and salads, remain as well executed as ever. Good value for money, budget about SGD $21 per person for a meal here.

The Chicken In A Basket (SGD $15.90) features 3 medium large, fried chicken parts - chicken wing, chicken thigh, and chicken breast. The chicken is coated in a crisp, golden brown batter, with a light savoury salty flavour. Cut in, and you get the juicy, tender chicken meat, having a delicate sweet savoury flavour. The small amount of chicken fat is easily removed. Served with a side of fresh, crunchy, vegetal sweet coleslaw of cabbage, carrots, and pineapple; as well as piping hot medium thick shoestring fries. Super filling. Highly recommended!

The signature Sticky Chewy Chocolate Sundae (SGD $11.50) is my favourite ice cream sundae, of all time. Rich, luscious, chocolatey sweet scoops of sticky chewy chocolate ice cream, coated in thick chocolate fudge sauce, topped with airy whipped cream, chocolate coated cherry, chocolate chips, and a half chocolate coated biscuit wafer. Loved the richness of this decadent dessert, have been enjoying this since I was a child, all the way till today. Great value for money with their lunch treats set meal, this is free with every ala-carte main course ordered (as of 2012 till 2018). Highly recommended!

Update Jan-2022: These days, whenever I visit Swensen's / Earle Swensen's, I usually default to just 3 dishes. Namely, the Chicken In A Basket, or the Curry Chicken Baked Rice, or the Pesto Salmon. But I always finish off with a Sticky Chewy Chocolate Sundae!
